What Guests Are Saying
Hobo Campground offers a great experience with nice hosts and clean facilities. Site 3 is spacious, shaded, and has creek access, making it ideal for winter camping despite some bug issues. However, maintenance could be improved, particularly regarding the cleanliness of the toilets.

For $36 a night, this campground could be better. There were no faucet water available. The restrooms are not well taken care of. We saw that some camp sites are exposed and sunny with no shade. We were lucky that we found a site with some tree coverage.

The map of the campground is terrible and recommend either calling the office or looking at a satellite view of the sites. Our site wasn’t appropriate for us and we couldn’t change it with the host so had to go find WiFi to change the reservation. Rather a hassle. Each campsite is very unique and different to each other. Miracle hot springs is open and 5 minute easy walk from campground. Really nice spot! We also drove some really nice and not too difficult off road trails in the area.

Our reservation was from Friday to Saturday. When we got there late at night, there was a car and a couple people occupying our campsite. I asked them if this was Campsite 11A. They played dumb and didn't know. I asked them which campsite they reserved. They were clueless. So I drove around in the dark looking for 11A. After a minute or so of driving, we knew for sure that they were in our campsite. I drove back to tell them the news. One guy, probably drunk or high like the rest of them, began to argue with me. But his arguments were completely baseless. One of his arguments was, "I thought that overnight camping isn't allowed here." I looked around at all of the occupied campsites then looked back at him while thinking, "Then wtf are you and all these people doing here this late at night?" Eventually they left and joined their friends in the campsite across from ours, which they also most likely didn't have a reservation for, because they left noisily at around 1:30 in the morning. They also had a huge campfire, even though campfires aren't allowed in this National Forest below 5000 feet. While they slowly packed up, they had their bright lights on, and their car alarms kept going off in the middle of the night. Eventually they all left. I wish that the Forest Rangers would do a better job of checking their reservations when people enter the campground because this happened to us AGAIN THE FOLLOWING DAY at a different campsite in the same campground. Besides that, it was a great place to sleep and rest. After the 4 squatters left, it was nice and quiet. After cooking up a nice breakfast, we left the following morning to go caving.

Our reservation was from Sat. to Sun. We went caving on Saturday morning, then afterwards we had a meal at a nice restaurant in Kernville. After our late lunch, we decided that we didn't want a repeat of the night before. Some people tried to steal a different campsite from us the previous night. So we drove to the campground immediately after our lunch. When we got to the parking spot of 1A, we saw that all the parking spots were taken. I thought I was in the wrong campsite again, so I went up to the RV that has a sign nearby with instructions to check in. I asked a man where 1A is. He asked me if I have a reservation and I replied yes. Then he acted like I was lying. I said that I have a reservation for 1A. Then he said that it must be for a different day. I said that I made the reservation for that day and I gave him my full name. I told him to check the reservation if he doesn't believe me. He went inside and that's most likely what he did. After he came back out, he apologized and said that the family currently occupying our campsite with large tents lied to them and said that they had a reservation. They must've taken their word for it and didn't check their ID and the reservation system. So the man said to come back in about an hour so he could locate the squatters who had stolen our campsite. They were most likely down in the river. So my friends and I decided to join our other friends who were in the nearby hot springs. After an hour or so, we came back and our parking spot and campsite were now empty. We set up camp. The man was very apologetic. I'm glad they did their jobs by making the squatters leave because I had a great night sleeping in the open under a tree near the river and beneath the stars. We made a nice hot breakfast on the picnic table too. That campsite is like a movie or a postcard :) Thanks to Rangers Mark and Bob for a pleasant stay. I can't wait to check in with you and camp at Hobo Campground again someday :)

Frank
