We had a mostly good time at the campground. Our only problem occurred upon arrival. We had brake problems on the way so we were a day late arriving and didn’t realize we would lose our spot. There were people in our campsite but the camp host quickly remedied the situation and asked the people to move as they weren’t set up yet. I find it hard to believe that we could lose our reservation completely by not arriving on the first day. We paid for the campsite and it shouldn’t matter if we arrive on time or not. Things happen that are out of our control and shouldn’t ruin our whole vacation because we couldn’t arrive on time. I didn’t know we could lose our spot because we were late arriving and I didn’t know who to contact anyway. This policy is not right because it’s not always in people’s control what happens on their trip. The campsite was paid for and it shouldn’t matter when the people arrive. That reservation was made 6 months prior and we had no way of knowing we would have brake problems and have to be late getting repairs and we were unaware of the policy regarding late arrivals. Now that we know next time I will arrive no matter what even if I have to sleep in my car. The whole policy is ridiculous. My campsite was paid for whether I was there or not.

They need bear proof dumpsters in the campgrounds as a bear got into the trash and made a mess. Camp hosts Susan and John were very accommodating.

Very clean and quiet campground. Deers were everywhere and there was a fairly quick hike to a beautiful waterfall. One word of caution, upon leaving the campground early in the morning, I saw four deers that were hit by cars on the main road. So stay alert for wild animals when driving.

Beautiful campground, especially during Fall. Spectacular views of Mt Shasta and easy access to the McCloud falls Trail.

Love this campground! Great little hikes right from our site. The downside is it can be a bit confusing as what the registration process might be when arriving after making a reservation at Recreation.gov. We not see any instructions on check in board at the campground entrance, nor did our site have our name & info on it. Apparently, one just pulls into their reserved site and occupies it.

Once you cross the River Loop Road take the left fork into the campground. The right fork will take you to the day use/parking area for Lower Falls and the beginning of the River Trail.
