What Guests Are Saying

Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful, quiet location with clean facilities, access to hiking trails, and a serene atmosphere surrounded by nature. Many visitors enjoyed the stunning views, wildlife interactions, and recreational options like kayaking and swimming. However, concerns were raised about the rough access road, lack of cell service, and limited information or support on-site, which could impact the overall camping experience.

A virtually empty campground yet reservations were required for all sites at a place with no cell phone reception to make reservations. And there was no ranger present at the site except for cleaning out toilets the following morning. We did make reservations, but the site did not look like it matched the description. We would liked to have switched to another site but there was no way to do so.

Clean atmosphere, nature at its best all around. Several deer even walked up to the campsite next to us one morning. Close to the more difficult hikes but not far from the family friendly ones. No CELL service which was a little tricky for planning ahead and using gps, but once we got familiar we knew how and where to go. Bathrooms were kept clean and stocked with tp. My only wish was that since there isn’t cell service that there are more maps or information about things to do at the national park and beyond. Also, there is no camp host (or one that we saw) so make sure to bring firewood with you. I did appreciate that is was quieter and although it had no hot water or showers it had less tourists that are maybe not as aware of quiet camping or less needy. A few children (we have children) but no one was loud or rude. I only gave it 4 stars because of the lack of information at the site like no firewood or where to go for local sites to see. Overall, we would stay here again.

The road in is atrocious :( washboard the entire way. We experienced trailer damage as a result. Once you arrive at the campground, it is a lovely place to stay. Bathrooms are clean. Hiking trails easy to access.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
