What Guests Are Saying
Butte Lake Campground offers a beautiful, quiet location with clean facilities, access to hiking trails, and a serene atmosphere surrounded by nature. Many visitors enjoyed the stunning views, wildlife interactions, and recreational options like kayaking and swimming. However, concerns were raised about the rough access road, lack of cell service, and limited information or support on-site, which could impact the overall camping experience.

Such a beautiful campground and so much to do. The lake is great for swimming and paddling, lots of hiking and the views are tremendous. It was very clean and quiet when I was there in September

Love the location and spot are decently, big and not near people. The only thing is that the road to get into the campground is gravel for about 15 minutes and it was unknown to us till we got there. So I recommend getting there before it gets dark. This road is also not marked well so make sure you have your gps downloaded.

The road to the campground was inaccessible. The road was like a six mile washboard. We had no idea the campground was on an unmaintained road, no indication in the literature we received or the advisor at the welcome center for mt lassen. It was listed as a regular campground with RV sites, yet when we arrived we found the road unnavigable, so we forfeited our reservation fee and were fortunately able to secure a forest service site not far down the road. Huge disappointment.
Every night of our two week road trip we found beautiful sites, have always had nothing but praise for the park systems who serve so beautifully, so we are shocked at the misrepresentation of this campground. We are happy to have this opportunity to give feedback so that the other campers might be aware of the inaccessibility of this campground and not have our experience. Thank you.

Loved this campsite! It’s a bit far from Lassen National Volcanic Park main sites like the peak, lakes but it’s worth the +1 hour drive!

The area is really beautiful. When I arrived, I parked my car next to the camping bench and I didn’t realize you couldn’t do that. There is no sign or instructions stating that. So when I woke up after my first night there a park worker, an older gentleman woke me up from my tent at 8 AM, and instead of saying good morning and engaging me or in introducing himself, just threatened me with a ticket, but I didn’t park my car on the gravel. Of course I was nice about it and said yes, sir and apologized. He said he was gonna be back in 20 minutes to check on me to make sure I did it, but he never came back. I was in space B 45. Another thing that was unfortunate. It was the constant smell of the vault toilets. Just seems like they needed to be emptied in every 30 minutes to an hour. I got a huge stench from those toilets. Other than that, the camping trip was great. It’s really unfortunate that you don’t allow dogs to hike on trails, but I understand the rules and I respect them.
