Manzanita Lake

Amazing place to campground. Ample space for putting tent(s). The campground is right next to the lake. So take your coffee in the morning and walk around and take the view in. Toilets are clean.

We arrived to find that the site we reserved really wasn't a good site for our trailer. Too steep so leveling would have been an issue. When I went down to the store to change the site, the gal couldn't help me because such modifications must be done on Rec.gov. There is no cell service or public wi-fi so she did allow me to sign-in to Rec.gov on the store computer but Rec.gov DOES NOT ALLOW SAME DAY SITE MODIFICATIONS! Needless to say FRUSTRATION! So... I checked which other sites were open for the 5 night stay and we just planted ourselves in one without changing anything. Naturally someone came around on night #5 asking for our site but was gracious enough to take another open site. We got lucky but what a pain!!! Also, Manzanita Campground is nice but water spigots are few and far between! If you plan on using water outside your RV to do dishes, etc, bring some sort of container that you can lug around cause you will have to lug for sure unless you're lucky enough to get a site near the spigot! If you take the site with the spigot, you'll have many guests approaching your site.

We’ve camped at Manzanita Lake for decades, and I was very surprised at the condition of the bathrooms, and the showers. They were dirty, and didn’t seem to be maintained. Additionally, the camp store was lacking grocery type items that we’ve seen in the past. We also were surprised at the lack of ranger presence and camp host. I’m hoping that these deficiencies are the result of the fire and it being late in the season.

We spent one week, Sept 18-25, 2024, disconnected at Manzanita Lake Campground so we could visit Lassen Volcanic Nation Park. We enjoyed hiking, motorcycling, puzzling, stargazing, a couple of BBQs, and reading. What a perfect time of year for this park; 80 degrees daytime, 40 degrees at night.

Approximately 5200 elevation. No services for a week; no sewer, water, dish Network, Internet, OTA TV, or shore power. With large trees we were able to harvest 340 watts hours of solar a day from 620 watt solar panels.. 600ah batteries started with SOC 100% and ended with SOC 56%. We did run the QD3200 generator for two 1.5 hour periods. We only used the inverter to run the microwave and to watch one DVD a night. We operated the refrigerator in the night mode at night and when we left the RV.
