Stayed in the E loop of Summit Lake South at the end of August. I appreciated the quiet since there were no TVs or generators. The campground is in a good location given its higher elevation (cool) and further into the park than Manzanita Lake (though Manzanita has amenities like a small store, showers, and gas). FYI, the surrounding area was burned in the Dixie Fire and the trees are dead, so sites on the periphery of this campground might be a bit depressing :(

The Summit Lake South campground in Lassen Volcanic National Park was clean and well-maintained. It's location near Summit Lake, for swimming on hot days, was appreciated. The central location of the campground within the park was convenient for all trailheads, near and far. I'd stay there again.

Great overnight stay at Summit Lake South, I believe I was in spot number 20, which was close to 19. If I had to do it again, I’d pick a different spot that was not so close but overall decent campground.

Gorgeous campsite looking over a small clearing. Water nearby, and pit toilet a short walk.

Beautiful camp site with zero light pollution at night. Walking distance to the lake, bathrooms were clean, other campers were quiet and respectful.

Nice quiet campsite. Great to have the lake there for a swim after hiking.

There was no notice on the reservation website that after Labor Day there is ONLY "dry" camping in Lassen. This means that all the water spigots were shut off. Not a problem for us because we brought water, but plenty of other campers were literally left high and dry and begging for water. Also, the majority of tent sites in all 3 loops (C & D & E) were far from level and very sloped.

Very pleasant campground. The bathrooms are vault toilets but they were the cleanest vault toilets I have ever seen!
