Mostly quiet, which is good since sites are fairly close together.

Plenty of space and very peaceful. Not a lot of traffic in the park as well

Epic, affordable, and perfectly located in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Location: Steps from the lake, which is an easy, sub-30-minute walk to loop around.

The Site: Equipped with a fire pit, grate, and a massive bear locker. My specific spot only fit a single vehicle, but other sites nearby have plenty of parking space.

Facilities: Spotless, well-maintained pit toilets and bear-proof trash bins are a quick two-minute walk away. Note: The nearby water spigot was turned off during my stay, and Summit Lake North (which normally has flush toilets) was closed.

Highlights: Visiting right after the back-to-school rush was incredibly serene. I watched a family of deer drink from the lake and, once the moon set, experienced pitch-black skies with excellent "seeing" conditions. I captured the best Milky Way astrophotos of my life here.

Huge thanks to the taxpayer-funded NPS for an unforgettable trip!

Nice spot to camp in the mid point of Park
Road. The campground lacks a place to dump waste and take on fresh water.

Campground is in the burned area. No water from spigot. Water in the lake was definitely not nice. Toilets were clean.

The Summit Lake South Campground is a nice facility. The water was shutoff for the season - we had plenty with us.

The sites are a bit crowded. We stayed on the D Loop site 9. It backed up to a meadow and had a peekaboo view of the lake.

Restrooms were clean and well maintained. They were also well spaced and there were enough to accommodate the need.

This was kind of like camping in a Walmart parking lot with trees. Lots of people parked/camped in close proximity to each other, no camp host, a few loud campers - not a great experience. The campground location is good for exploring the park just use it as a place to sleep vs. a place to hang out. The facilities were all fine and clean.
