Salmon Creek is a great campground in the high Sierras. The campsites are spread out and there were plenty of water and bathrooms available. There is a bit of noise from the nearby road, but there's not a lot of late night traffic. There's a ton of lakes, hikes, and trails nearby. We were there in October and it's definitely pretty cold and the campground wasn't busy at all. Site 31 was a great option.

Wasn’t crowded, lots of wood laying around to burn , close to the Sierra lakes . The negative only was there was no drinking water.

Unfortunately didn't get the camp host name, but she was silly and kind and made for a great host! She led us to our campsite and met her cute dogs. Highly reccomend a overnight adventure here to enjoy the stars.

It was a lovely campground. Well maintained, spacious sites, and beautiful foliage. We loved that there is a creek right at the campground to play in and explore. The camp host was also very nice, helpful, and helped make our trip very special for all of us! This will be the campground we stay when visiting the Lake Basin area!

Great site. Clean bathrooms. Camp host was super helpful and friendly with collecting trash to keep bears away and buying firewood. We will be back!

This use to be one of my favorite campgrounds. The surrounding area is gorgeous, and the campground itself is much more quiet and peaceful (though maybe not quite as pretty) as Sardine Lake (which is super crowded). That said, some dipweed had a tree company come in and annihilate about 100 trees. Some of the nicest sites, cool and shaded from afternoon sun have been laid to waste. These were not arborists, these were trash and hackers. They will say fire protection but that is bull as they left the tree detritus, the actual serious flammable stuff, spread all over the campground. I have been coming here for 50+ years with my family and this is probably my last time. So disappointing.

From Sierraville, travel south on Highway 49 for 18 miles to Bassetts. Turn right and continue two miles to the campground, which is on the left side of the highway.
From Sierra City, travel north on Highway 49 for 5 miles. Turn left at Bassett Station on Gold Lake Highway and continue just over a mile, campground is on the left just past Packer Lake Road.
Salmon Creek Campground is accessible via Highway 49, which is a major state highway. It is located approximately 18 miles south of Sierraville and 5 miles north of Sierra City.
Elevation: 1746 feet

Policies & Rules
General
- In accordance with standard industry practices, we will be assessing a $5 additional vehicle fee on the 'second vehicle' in each single family campsite, and on the 'third and fourth vehicle' in any double family campsite, provided these vehicles are not joined to the first vehicle by a hitch and towed onto the site. In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.
- Bears frequent the area; all food must be kept in approved containers
- Utility hookups and showers are not available at the campground

- Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. For current fire conditions or weather closures contact the Yuba River Ranger District (530) 288-3231(voice) or, (530) 288-3656 (TDD).
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect California's forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. For more information visit firewood.ca.gov.
- A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). No-show customers are only recorded at staffed facilities. At most remote facilities, all customers are noted as automatically checked-in on the date of arrival. It is recommended that staffed facilities hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date. It is recommended that staffed facilities hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date. There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation if the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit some or all of the recreation fees. There is no change fee if the customer changes campsites that are the same price and on the same reservation dates in the same campground. If the campsite the customer is changing to has a price difference, the customer will be responsible for any additional fees or be provided with a refund, based on the price difference. Where recorded, no-show customers are assessed a $20.00 no-show fee and forfeit the first night's recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use recreation fee for a day-use facility. We recommend customers contact the facility if they are en route to their reservation but cannot make it by the check-in date. In these cases, no refund will be issued, but the facility can ensure that a "no-show" fee is not assessed.
