What Guests Are Saying

Wild Plum Campground is a beloved destination for many, offering spacious and well-maintained sites next to a peaceful creek, which enhances the camping experience with serene natural sounds. While some guests noted issues with camp host interactions and the proximity of sites, the overall atmosphere is family-friendly, with clean facilities and excellent hiking opportunities nearby. Despite minor concerns about water availability and site closeness, the campground remains a favorite for its beauty, tranquility, and helpful hosts.

Campground was nice as always. Would have been nice to actually have toilet paper in the restrooms. completely out two days and very little there the other two days. Don't need this when camping. There's already no camp host any more, have to drive to town for firewood - now no toilet paper?

We've camped at Wild Plum many times. It's one of our very favorite places.

This time, we got a flat tire form a sidewall puncture, apparently while driving into the upper campground. These are truck tires, in good condition. The nearest tire service is Les Schwab in Portola, about 50 minutes away, after you change onto your spare.

Also, for our RV conversion van, we need access to a sanitary dump station every few days. The nearest such dump station is Loganville, a USFS station a few miles west of Sierra City. The electronic pay station at Loganville is frequently out-of-order. This is a big pain. A can't understand why the USFS can't do a better job of keeping this functional.

Second flat tire in two visits this year. I got a flat tire when entering Wild Plum campground during our June visit. AND my friend got a flat tire when entering Wild Plum campground during our July visit. Required changing to the spare, and a trip to Portola Les Schwab (expensive for me).
We have been camping at Wild Plum many times during the past dozen years with no such problems.
I'm wondering if the trash pickup crew/equipment is scattering metal fragments. Or maybe some recent work crews did that.
Have other visitors reported such problems?
Maybe someone can investigate this.

Wild Plum is fun-right on Haypress Creek, close to Lakes Basin.
Only a 4 star rating due to lack of a camp ground host. Several “no shows”, the sites were left open/unused to any “drop in” participants of the Downieville Classic bike race.
Additional issue- the dumpster was overflowing in Bear country. An additional dumpster should have been available if pick up is only once weekly.
The Forest service did maintain the bathrooms.

Without a camp host the bathrooms kept running out of toilet paper. Also, the trash dumpsters were overflowing and the trash was not inside to prevent drawing bears. I thought all the campsites near #36 were for tent camping only, but people with camper vans and other types of campers were camping in the area. This campground needs a Camp Host.

In the case of motorcycles, the first two are considered to be one vehicle and the third and fourth are also considered to be one vehicle. No additional vehicle fees are collected for bicycles.
 • Bears frequent the area; all food must be kept in approved containers

 • No Show Policy A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date (or for day-use facilities, by check-in time the day of arrival). * No-show customers are only recorded at staffed facilities. At most remote facilities, all customers are noted as automatically checked-in on the date of arrival. * It is recommended that staffed facilities hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date. * It is recommended that staffed facilities hold group day-use facilities until check-in time on the arrival date. There is no change fee if a customer extends or shortens a reservation if the change includes dates from the original reservation. If they choose to depart early, they may forfeit some or all of the recreation fees. There is no change fee if the customer changes campsites that are the same price and on the same reservation dates in the same campground. If the campsite the customer is changing to has a price difference, the customer will be responsible for any additional fees or be provided with a refund, based on the price difference. Where recorded, no-show customers are assessed a $20.00 no-show fee and forfeit the first night's recreation fee for a campsite or forfeit the entire day-use recreation fee for a day-use facility. We recommend customers contact the facility if they are en route to their reservation but cannot make it by the check-in date. In these cases, no refund will be issued, but the facility can ensure that a "no-show" fee is not assessed.
