Car alarm was off at night for almost 2 hours at night! It was ridiculous. Other people left the campground. Host didn't do anything to fix it. A bunch of trees have cut on site #12. There was pretty much no shade at that site. Ground was not flat to pitch a tent.

Stayed at 58 for 2 nights. Spacious site compared to some others we saw, right by creek, trees to hang couple hammocks and offered shade. Right by bathroom but didn’t smell the bathroom. Access to creek a bit steep but my 6 year old was able to get up and down just fine. Didn’t see poison oak around this site. Site didn’t offer too much privacy but I liked that it was not along the main road through the campground. Neighbor got a visit from the resident bear one evening. One downside is there’s no water at the campground. I got water from creek for washing and cleaning. Overall loved the site and had a great time.

The host is a kind woman. Site 35 is private, far from the highway and near the creek.
The fire ring is a little bit small and lots of ashes were retained inside.
BTW, we saw a black bear approaching twice. So be cautious at nightfall and avoid sitting back to the creek where I saw the bear climbing up.

DO NOT CAMP AT SITE #52.
We love Wheeler Gorge, but this site was horrible. No redeeming qualities. I'm surprised they pass this area off as a campsite! The entire spot is on a steep slope with large rocks jutting out, no access to the creek, no shade (except a 5'x5' area under bushes covered in bees and poison oak), the highway traffic is loud nearby, and the neighbors are extremely close.
I've camped at Wheeler Gorge before and loved it, but this site is awful. Avoid site #52!

There really is no running water. Not even at the creek. I’m sure it’s becoming of the drought. The camping spots are small and not a lot of space for tents

Great hosts.
Beware there are lots of mosquitoes here. This could be expected with the proximity to the creek. They are very aggressive. It can also be unexpectedly hot.
