Wonderful place for star gazing; it seemed isolated from light pollution.
I was surprised at the "prarie-like" setting. Definitely not a woodland.

Site 17 was a great view but no shade. Short walk to RR and next to a spigot. Locally you can see bison on a ranch. We parked and took pics :)

This place has a serious cockroach issue. You won’t catch them during the day but as soon as it gets dark you’ll see them running everywhere. We ended up sleeping in the car to avoid contaminating our home.

Nice oak woodlands setting next to lake. Would be peaceful but there are always camper's whose music, etc. can be heard well beyond their campsites. Also, Angler's Cove is right across from Buckhorn and you can be guaranteed loud car stereos and lots of people noise from over there. Too bad. The deer, the raptors, the woodpeckers, and the lovely oak trees make for an otherwise sublime camping experience, albeit hot in the summer time.

We stayed on #30,#31 from Friday to Monday. Up the hill there was a Van parked at night, that first night Ranger told us to watch out not to make that much noise because the lady was going to complain and she knew the rules. We can not have this type of camping experience if they allowed people like her to complain for no reason. Since Day one she was racial profiling us and we didn't complain like not a big deal to us trying to argue back , but I guess this type of behavior is okay, but making noise is not okay.. Sunday night a group of teens were partying all night long till 5 am without Ranger intervención. Music was so loud and that was alright for us because they were enjoying there time, therefore we got told to stay quiet because of her. We never had this type of issues. If campers want a quiet night I believe they shouldn't be there at all or at least tell campers that moderate noise its okay in case they want to Complain.

I have camped here multiple times over the years. The weekend of 7-15-22 was projected to be 108 degrees. With two kids and dogs I decided I should stay home as it would have been a very hot trip. This place is great when it’s 100 degrees and below. Kids have things to do and the asphalt makes it easy to ride bikes. We had to cancel this trip unfortunately. Thanks

Our Family Camping trip to Black Butte Lake was awesome. Jim the camp host was great. The Team of Rangers that were there were also great and we will be going back. Everyone was friendly and inviting, camps were clean and water was warm in the Lake.

Great place to camp. First time and absolutely loved it. We’ll definitely be back. Make sure to not leave ANY FOOD out because it will welcome the deer to visit your site lol.
