Buckhorn

This place was pretty post-apocalyptic during our visit. We should have looked into it more before booking. The plumbed bathrooms and showers were closed due to covid (which wasn't noted on the website) and the portapotty was full to the brim. Luckily there were a few useable pit toilets. The lake had receded a lot and was filled with trash and algae blooms, which was sad to see. It didn't help that there were active fires and 20mph winds the night we stayed (not the park's fault but it didn't help the ambiance). Did see plenty of deer though! I was hoping that this could be a new go-to campsite, but we won't be back.

I’m only giving it a 3 star rating because the bathroom near our campsite weren’t working and they only had one porta-potty for all the people camping out here .😡 It was disgusting . And when we finally found out that the other bathrooms were open . They were too far to walk to and The showers weren’t even working It would be nice if the website told you how the bathroom were or if they were even working. Besides that my friends / family had a great time here. Especially in the water . The park rangers are very kind and check up around the campgrounds occasionally.

I chose my site based on the view provided online. It showed a view of the water and a tree shading the parking pad. It was not shaded, the closest tree was 25 feet away. It was over 100 degrees so I thought I had chosen a shady site. It was not. I moved to another site that had shade. During the day, I left the campground and left a note on my camper saying I would move if I had to. The host had me move to another shade-less site. Normally my ice chest keeps ice for 3-5 days. Because my vehicle was in full sun, it didn't last a day. The web should represent each site accurately.

The place is very dry, the lake has receded away from campsites, I choose the campsite with a picture of lake right beside, but what I saw is heartbreaking. Recreation.gov should always give the right information/current photos.
Will never go there again.

This is certainly better than the other side of the lake which has next to no water close to shore, just mud. The issues for us were not all of the bathrooms were working. You had to drive to get to the restroom as the two closest ones on either side of our campsite were out of order. It was also sad that people can be so rude and have their music blaring at 1:00 a.m. in their campsite. The camp host was nice and I don't remember seeing on the website that they said they had showers here. That was a very nice surprise. I would also say that where this is located do not go camping if it gets more than 95° during the day because it does not cool off at night. It was 100° at midnight still which made it next to impossible to sleep. There's still enough water to put your boat in or a kayak. Overall, the campground it's good.

This place was super hot with very little shade which made it not very enjoyable during the daylight hours.

Then to top it off when it became “quiet time” the neighbors at bh 07 and 09 started being super loud telling to instruct children who they allowed to scream consistently as if they didn’t care that they had neighbors trying to sleep. No one came by to enforce the quiet time so everyone nearby had to wait until these disrespectful people decided to go asleep and there was no one we could notify to alert them about these people.

Very tired and unhappy with my experience.

Rangers and staff were racist we were the only group of Latino I felt very discriminated. Will not come back here ever and will not recommend.

We had a great experience at this camping site. We reserved 3 sites all next to each other. There was a volleyball court right across and also horseshoe area. The kids enjoyed the lake! They also have loaner life jackets! Great idea! We’ll definitely camp here again!

Amazing campsite gorgeous lake our only problem is the dirty bathrooms and showers. It looks like no one is cleaning the bathrooms for month’s.

Over half of the bathrooms were out of order and the others were disgusting; park rangers were not happy people and came off as uncaring and mean. The roads are lined with large rocks which make it a real challenge to back a camper into a site.
This site is on my list to never go to again
