Dillon Creek Campground

We had to leave cause the neighbors had taken over the campsite to the edge of ours. Plus the heat, the mosquitos, the barking dogs and the loudness were unbearable.

This whole area is breathtaking! The Klamath river is crystal clear and there are multiple trails leading to swimming holes along it from the campground. It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been swimming. The water was so invigorating and refreshing.

The campground is very clean - we saw someone come to service and clean the trash and restrooms each day of our visit.

In the summer the mosquitoes are relentless. You WILL need spray with some deet in it. Our deet-free citronella spray was utterly useless and we all went home with over 50 bites each, no exaggeration. On our last night we acquired deet spray and noticed they still hovered all around us, but weren’t biting. Consider bringing a shelter with bug screens if you have access to one, as they love to swarm around your face while cooking and eating.

Again, this whole area is stunning. The land is stewarded by the indigenous locals of the Karuk tribe, and you can see the harmony of their relationship to the land in the beauty surrounding you. If you need any supplies, head to Somes Bar (about 15 miles south of Dillon Creek Campground) and go to Salmon Creek Outpost. The store is owned and operated by indigenous locals who are very friendly, helpful, and offer a great selection. They even had good produce and fresh high quality meats available.

Hot , very dusty, tons of meat bees, mosquitos gallore. There friday - Monday. Never saw a maintenace staff person. All toilet paper gone on Satureday, and garbage piled high by sunday. Oh and no water BYO.
The only saving grace is that the swimming hole is beautifuland relaxing.

There were also 4-5 Forest Service (FS) employees there overnight.
The paths leading to the creek and rapids below were flanked with poison ivy EVERYWHERE! Sad if FS employees don’t ensure safe foliage surroundings for campers.
NEXT, I was eaten alive by mosquitos, even though spraying myself with ‘Off.’.
I finally stayed in our camper until it was time to leave. I HATED BEING THERE!!

Exactly as advertised and depicted – very roomy and clean site, clean restrooms – nice little wayside! Was aware that there was going to be no water before I showed up, so I was not surprised!

Long-Term Negative: There hasn't been running water at Dillon Creek Campground for over 5 years, possibly longer. AND USFS wants to double the rates to stay there!
Other long term negative: We always camp at Dillon Creek the first two weeks of July. For the past 5 years, we are inundated with about 100 kids and several adults, probably from Kidder Creek Camp, who park across the road from the campground, come in without paying a day use fee, and absolutely overwhelm the tiny swimming area, causing paying campers to have to bail out of the noise and crowding. NOT OK.

Loved this campground. Very solid facilities, spacious camp sites, and easy access to the river. Very much exceeded my expectations. Not much around here, though, so bring what you need!

The setting of Dillon creek is fantastic but come on get the water system working
