Little Beaver a Campground

No camp host on site and bathrooms were not maintained. Other than that we had a great time. We have been to LGV before and always enjoy it! The lake water is so clear and nice to swim and kayak in!

This is a quiet, forested campground with lots of space around the sites. We felt fortunate to be able to have a campfire and lots of wood was available. Not much in the way of activities other than using the lake which was clean & warm & walking the path along the lake.

Pro - Beautiful campground and lake

Con - With a travel trailer the site is positioned to face away from the main campsite (fire pit and picnic table). Your trailer faces towards the road (and is within about 10-15 feet) which was very busy with vehicles and foot traffic as its one of the first sites in the loop so all loop traffic has to pass by.
Con - Holiday weekend + no camp host = loud and obnoxious people who don't need to be considerate of others and feel they don't need to observe the 10:00 quiet time. Had a couple very rough nights which took away from the fun of camping out under the stars and enjoying family time around the campfire (couldn't hear our own conversations). Solution = CAMP HOST presence.

We have camped at Little Grass Valley Reservoir many times in the past, at Little Beaver and Running Deer. Had been one of our daughters favorite places. Very disappointed when we arrived. No hosts (concessionaires) at campgrounds, dirty restrooms and garbage all over the ground. We were surprised when we arrived to have our site filled with 4 cars. These campers thought it was fine to go, enjoy the lake until they felt like leaving (not following the 12 pm departure time). The only reason they left was because a nice camper next door to our sight went down to the lake and found them and told them that we had arrived (it was 1:40 pm). Otherwise, I don't know how long we would have had to wait for our site. No Hosts to help. Also,Forest Service not posting the correct info on the individual camping site posts. No one cleaned the restroom the whole time we were there. Went 3 -4 days even without any toilet paper. (We carry our own.) Never saw garbage in the restroom dumped once, even though the COVID signs posted saying what they would do to keep things clean and we had no problem doing our part. Only time we saw the Forest Service employees was when there was a problem with a couple of female campers, who just arrived, and tried to kick out a single older woman from a site, because they had been transferred from the NOW closed Running Deer site to her site. The older woman had arrived the day before. Her site was a first come, first serve site and never had any card posted on it about it being reserved for these rude women and their friends. Luckily the older woman got to stay (after the Forest Service was found, wherever they were) and they had to get another site. The Forest Service had failed to do post the sign. We camped 6 nights and will not be camping at LGVR again anytime in the near future.

While the reservoir itself is beautiful, our overall experience at Little Beaver campgrounds was not a good one. We stayed in Loop B, site 53. The layout of the site was a little odd. The grill was separate from the fire pit and spaced quite a bit apart. We did notice that at Loop A, this was not the case at many sites. The picnic tables are rather low to the ground, and there are a lot of felled trees. There is no camp host, and no where to buy wood, but there is plenty of wood to be found. It would have been helpful to have brought an axe. By Friday night, the campgrounds filled up and many of the other campers were inconsiderate and loud. Boat trailers were parked in front of the restrooms, which were not kept very clean. While the restrooms would be re-stocked with toilet paper each morning, that toilet paper would appear to be stolen shortly after. Dirty baby diapers were left strewn on the floor in the bathroom, and one evening, as my daughter and I made our way to the restroom, a couple was making out and smoking cigarettes just outside the doorway. The 8 person maximum at each site was also ignored. Many sites had 3 or more tents and large groups of partiers. The people at the site next to us had large speakers and blasted music with explicit lyrics at their site non-stop. When, at the second night, around 8:30 PM, my husband asked them if they could turn it down, they became aggressive and threatened to "kick his ass" stating that they "don't come up to the woods for anyone to tell them what to do." They continued to talk shit all night so that we could hear their threatening comments, mentioning that they don't give a fuck about anyone's kids but their own. Prior to booking this trip, I had read a review that mentioned a rowdy crowd at this campground, but having experienced it for ourself, we will not be coming back.
