What Guests Are Saying
Hayward Flat Campground offers a beautiful location near a lake, providing opportunities for swimming and kayaking, which many visitors enjoy. While recent tree clearing has left some debris and reduced shade, the campground remains relatively quiet and private with well-maintained restrooms. However, there are concerns about maintenance and the absence of a camp host, leading to mixed experiences regarding campsite conditions and amenities.

Wonderful campground! Went with a big group of teens and had a great time! Was able to rent kayaks from a spot a few miles down the road and launch them from the campsite straight into the water. Lake is gorgeous with beautiful red sand. Campsite was clean and nice and we went unbothered and enjoyed our stay.

Site 98M, excellent spot, right next to the water and next to the bathroom. Weird angle for the campsite as a whole, kind of on a hill. Would definitely stay again but check out other campsites! Very happy with my stay
Bring your own soap and toilet paper. They ran out quickly on us and didn’t replace them for a day. Not the worst, be prepared.

Been going to Trinity Lake for 50 years. Every year it is more disappointing. The forest service cut down many trees making it look baren on the lake sides. We arrived at camp and there was debris all over the camp site we were on. We needed to rake x 2 days to make it even safe to walk around let alone make a few camp sites level and free of debris. The camp host asked us to pay for additional cars - I said NO - I feel like I should ask for a refund for having to arrive and do so much work just to enjoy what I paid for.

Spot #28 could use more shade, but other than that it was fabulous.

Quiet, clean restrooms and reasonable price, close to town and MTB trails. short boat ride or drive to the marina. Little bit messy from the tree work but I'm sure that will be cleaned up soon.

When we got there our site (#83) was considerably smaller than every other site we saw. Because of all the clearing they'd been doing, their was no clear space for us to put our tent. The site was only equipped with a fire pit, no bear box or picnic table as had been listed when I booked the site. We were very tired from travel and had no place to stay! Luckily, there were several First Come First Serve sites available, so we picked one of those and stayed there. Unfortunately, that meant we had to pay again. Supposedly we were able to pay via a QR code that was posted but we couldn't actually find said QR code anywhere and we didn't bring our checkbook because we hadn't thought we'd have no reason to need it. Luckily I had enough cash for 2 days but we had originally planned to stay for 5 so we had to book another site last minute or an atm in the middle of the forest. Luckily we found something on HipCamp. In the future I'll make sure to pick something closer to the water as all those sites looked big enough to accomodate a tent and had bear boxes and picnic tables. Don't trust the ones farthest from the water as they are on a hill and very small!

We have been coming with large family and friends since the 70s. The forest service tree removal left campgrounds unusable with giant piles of wood everywhere and so much debris it looked like a tornado came through. There were giant holes from tractors in tent sites, they exchanged appropriate size bear boxes for tiny backpacking type and tables were missing. We had to clear 3 ft deep piles to have a walkable path for my parents through campsite. They clear cut entire section near beach leaving wood chip piles so thick there were moguls to traverse. We come to this lake from far away even in low water years for the shade and forest experience and now there is very little shade and the sun wakes us up as if we slept on the beach. The Shasta service people were so helpful for everything from requesting bathroom attention, refunding unused reservation or changes in site use to eliminating rattlesnake that was in restroom closet. We were so grateful for their responsiveness. The large garbage cans can no longer be locked closed to prevent wild life with broken locks. I am disappointed in the condition of this campground with old plumbing that hasn’t been repaired, leaking precious water from faucets. I know funding and staffing is short but this is so precious of a place and we have people that fly from even Virginia to experience this with us. We spend so much on this trip renting boat, buying gas and ice and eating local. I hope we save this wonderful place. This is the first year in 50 that we talked about not coming any more for our annual adventure. Thanks for the opportunity to respond
