Camp rangers and staff at the store are all very nice. Nice drive with meadows and wildflowers.

The Sheriff , National Park Employees and the Forest Rangers are all on different sides, conflicting guidance was given regarding evacuation for the Basin fire 20 miles away . The sheriff told us to pack up and leave , the forest ranger on site in radio communications with the office in Prather said they were holding meetings to advise of the campsite on evacuation yet the ranger was called to leave the post not the campers , to be fair the National park camp employees were the only ones to get it right , Dinkey was not evacuating but only under a smoke warning . Yet how were we to know , there is no phone service or internet , so we ended up coming off the mountain and ending what would have been our family reunion to find out the closure area was below dinky creek road for all of July 2024 with the campground to remain open . Of course people should take precautions with forest fires and play it safe , so not to blame anybody in particular, unfortunately this are the current conditions of the sierra .

The campground was clean and sites were far enough apart to not feel like you’re on top of your neighbor. We stayed at 5 days and really enjoyed all of the hiking areas and the rock water slides ! Definitely will be coming back. My only complaint was the bathrooms did get clogged several times but I think that was due to other campers not reading the “hold for 5 seconds to flush “ properly signs.

We were told to leave by the sheriff who was putting roadblocks out on the roads going down into the canyon, he said the basin fire was as headed up the canyon , we were told by the forest ranger that she had been called to evacuate, but federal camp site people said there was no evacuation.. the coordination between these agencies is lacking and not safe to know who to rely on.

normally we book 4-6 campsites for our family annual camping trip. we were able to enjoy our time without anyone bothering us or us bothering other campers. Only problem we had was visiting the abandon sawmill, we always do day and night visits to the mill. we were there for a week and on the second day we did a night hike through the mill and had a great experience. on the 4th day we decided to do it again but we were greeted by the forest Ranger who was very rude and told us that area was off limits at night. He threaten to give us a citation if we did not leave the area, mind you I been doing this every time I camp at Dinkey and never had any issues going to the mill at night. I'm not sure if this was a one time thing since there are no signs that state the area is off limits at night time.
Dinkey Creek is my favorite place to visit and has been for the last 6 yrs.

Turn southeast onto Dinkey Creek Road and travel 13 miles to the campground.

- Register at the campground office upon arrival.
- Reserved sites must be occupied or they will be forfeited.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
