About Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins (CA)

Situated near the northwest entrance to the park, the rustic Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins offer convenience and comfort in the scenic setting of Lassen Volcanic National Park. These 20 cabins are the first new accommodations in Lassen Volcanic National Park since 1972, and are available in three models: 2 Room, 1 Room, and Bunkhouse. They are within walking distance of Manzanita Lake, a popular catch & release fishing and family destination, and offer a view of 10,457-foot Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park. The cabins are located one mile south of the park entrance, perched at an elevation of 5.9 ft and adjacent to a 179-site campground. The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails are nearby. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater within the campground.    Groceries, supplies, gifts, gasoline, laundromat and hot showers are located at the nearby Manzanita Lake Camper Store. Our cafe features a variety of delicious and healthy items including salads, fresh fruits, hot or cold sandwiches, espresso drinks and soft-serve ice cream. Kayak and paddle board rentals are also available on a first come, first serve basis at the Camper Store.  A map of our cabins can be viewed under additional information or on our website, www.lassenlodging.com.  Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ManzanitaLake.

Make sure to Get to the cabin well before dark. The cabins are very poorly labeled, and finding them after sunset could be difficult.
Showers cost $5 per use, which wasn’t listed on the page. Gas is available at the camp store, and there are pit toilets. There is no cell service is very limited
Make sure to bring headlamps, flashlights, or lanterns, especially if you plan to be outside after dark.
The area itself is beautiful, but the drive up was very unsettling. A shift that I can’t explain but there was an unsettling shift when driving up the ridge to shingletown. The in the area before reaching Lassen Volcanic National Park. So offsetting that I sent my husband a message to let him know, we were debating heading back to 1-5. I have traveled alone with my kids for 20 years and never felt the need to leave an area. I am actually very glad I didn’t read the local history until after our visit, because I think knowing it beforehand would have made the drive and our experience even more unnerving.
Overall, it’s a beautiful and remote area, but definitely arrive before dark and come prepared for a very rustic experience. This was one of 8 nationals parks we visited. And beautiful area in the park, but one of the few places we will not be returning to visit.

Nice cabin, but heater did not work and it was down to freezing at night! Camp host got us a space heater the second day, but would have been much more comfortable with main heater working.

We were going to tent camp but the cabin became available so we got that. It was definitely worth it. The cabin was clean, not far from flush toilets, the wood lake and a little store that did serve some hot food. They served paninis, hot dogs, nachos, not much else but enough to get you by. An espresso machine was in the store too so you could get a Coffee, Latte etc.

Our family all voted that we would definitely go back

We enjoyed staying at the cabins for the first time, as we normally tent camp. The only bad thing was that fires and charcoal was banned, so that only left the propane stove. I would call ahead if you are coming up in the next couple of months.

The heater never felf warm to the touch, but it did heat up the cabin to about 55 - 60 degrees. It's strange because there are no user accessible controls on the heater.

My family and I had a great time at the Lake Manzanita camping cabins. The cabins were as described, never had to use the heater, the weather and the lake were beautiful. We enjoyed hiking around the lake , and also hiked to Bumpass and to see the falls. A wonderful trip! I would highly recommend Lassen Volcanic National Park as well as the cabins at Lake Manzanita!

I stayed in one of the glamping tents. It was a good experience. It was the first time I had ever stayed in something like this. It was easier not having to set up my tent, and it was nice to have a bed to sleep on. The campground was nice, and I was pleasantly surprised by how few people were there given that it was a summer week. It was nice to have access to showers and a store. It did take about 10 minutes for the shower water to heat up, and the hot water only lasted for 5 minutes, but it was still nice to have access to a shower after a day of hiking.

We've stayed many times in the cabins and always had a great time. This year, however, was less than satisfactory. Our cabin was not cleaned before we arrived, and the housekeeping guy told us it was because the prior renters "checked out really late" and he "thought they might just check back in again that day" so he blew off the cleaning, even though there was a new reservation for that cabin. The entire 5 days we were there, we NEVER saw a cabin cleaned between rentals. The cafe in the store, for 2 days of our trip, didn't open at 8:00 am for breakfast, but finally opened at 10 a.m., and also closed at 3:30 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m.; all these closures due to employees calling in sick with no one to cover. The hot water heater in the showers went out so no showers or laundry for 2 days. One store salesgirl and one cafe employee gal were very rude and not helpful at all. When I asked to buy a map of the campgrounds, the rude salesgirl told me "Why do you need a map? You don't need a map, just drive around and see it for yourself, or you can walk around and look at the campground. We only have 1 map and it isn't for sale." The cafe menu has dozens of specialty-mix coffee flavors, 2 items for breakfast: avocado toast or bagel with cold creamed cheese, and a few grilled sandwiches for lunch or dinner. The soda fountain machine was "out -of-order" the entire time we were camping. Soft-serve ice cream was also "unavailable" when we tried to order that. I think the vendors hired to run the store, cafe and cabins were a poor choice this year. No matter what time we went to use the showers, they were filthy. We were told they were cleaned every morning and the door entry code changed, but the same code was given out each time we purchased a shower for $5.00 per person, per day...and the same nasty wads of hair, leftover junk was in the showers each day...clear evidence that no one had swept or cleaned the showers. I hope for better next year.
