About Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins (CA)

Situated near the northwest entrance to the park, the rustic Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins offer convenience and comfort in the scenic setting of Lassen Volcanic National Park. These 20 cabins are the first new accommodations in Lassen Volcanic National Park since 1972, and are available in three models: 2 Room, 1 Room, and Bunkhouse. They are within walking distance of Manzanita Lake, a popular catch & release fishing and family destination, and offer a view of 10,457-foot Lassen Peak, the largest volcano in the park. The cabins are located one mile south of the park entrance, perched at an elevation of 5.9 ft and adjacent to a 179-site campground. The Loomis Museum, Loomis Ranger Station and popular hiking trails are nearby. Educational programs are presented at the museum and amphitheater within the campground.    Groceries, supplies, gifts, gasoline, laundromat and hot showers are located at the nearby Manzanita Lake Camper Store. Our cafe features a variety of delicious and healthy items including salads, fresh fruits, hot or cold sandwiches, espresso drinks and soft-serve ice cream. Our cabin was close to the lake and the camp store. There are nearby hikes in which you need not get into a car. I just wish I stayed for a few more days.

We enjoyed our stay in Cabin 14. Cabin 14 is unique in that it is away from the other cabins and also that it faces Manzanita Lake. You get a great feeling of solitude and peace there being away from the other cabins. It was thoroughly clean and smelled of pine and features two sets of tables and chairs: one inside and one outside. It also had a picnic table and fire pit. We also enjoyed that it was ADA FRIENDLY in that it featured a ramp access to front door. Another nice thing is that it very close to vault toilets across the lane. Of course, Manzanita Lake is an amazing place to camp in Lassen Volcanic National Park, we cannot recommend it enough. We frequent the area as much as possible. Manzanita Lake camping also has a camp store, gas stations, showers and amphitheater for evening programs.

We would heartily recommend this cabin with one caveat. The bed was extremely firm. It was unsleepable for us. We ended up having to use our air mattress we brought. So, if you love firm beds then great! If not, please be prepared so it doesn’t adversely affect your stay.

Policies & Rules

General

  • There is no electricity, restrooms or water in the cabins, only propane heat. Drinking water, restrooms, pay showers and laundry facilities are located nearby at Manzanita Lake Camper store.
  • Campers must have a valid park entrance permit/pass before camping.
  • Be bear aware; food and scented products must be stored in the bear lockers provided at each campsite.
  • There are a variety of cabin types, including a one-room cabin that sleeps three, a two-room cabin that sleeps six, and a one-room bunk-house that sleeps eight; please ensure your reservation can accommodate your party.
  • Smoking is prohibited within the cabins.
  • There are no linens in the cabins; you need to bring your own.
  • Pets are not permitted inside your cabin.
  • There is no internet or cellular service available in the park.
  • Remember to print or screen shot your confirmation email as it has your combination code to enter your cabin.
  • The cabins are self-serve; when you arrive go to your reserved cabin, enter the combination code in the lock box to access your key is inside.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at/or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more. We sell firewood at the Camper Store, or you can purchase some from our cabin host after hours.
