Fallen Leaf Campground

The lake is beautiful and great for paddle boarding. Great nearby access to Lake Tahoe. The campground is well maintained with the cleanest bathrooms, and best campgrounds hosts of any forest service campground I have been to. There were bears in the campground and at the lake. So use the bear box.

We visit every year but this year was a big disappointment. We changed our reservation from campsite to a yurt.We thought we were going to stay for two nights.
We left after the first night.
The "host" was so rude in the morning that i did not recover from that .I was having my coffee and was eating my breakfast when she approached me and told me to put my icebox away because of the bears. We know that there are bears on the campground.Every year we encounter them.I was just getting my things out to eat.
It upset me so much that it set the tone for the day and at 2:30 we decided to leave.I am not sure if I want to come back after this.
It was also the first year for motorized boats and people water skiing.I never have seen that either at the campground beach.Since when is that allowed?

We stayed one night in Fallen Leaf CG, at site #68, on June 14. We did car camping, and the site is a loop, spacious, clean, quiet, shady and plenty of privacy. It is about 0.5 mi from HW 89, there is no car noise. . The flush toilets are clean, without smell. We walked about 500 yards to Lake Fallen Leaf, easy and flat. Many families with kids were having fun by the lake side. Bush is green, flowers everywhere, mountains were capped with snow. The scenery is beautiful all around. Two things to watch-out, pollens and mosquetos. The lake has a yellow pollen belt of ~5', likely coming down from the pine trees around. The next morning we hiked Eagle Fall trail, which is ~6 mi away, before the crowd arrived. It is the best CG we stayed in the past 20 years. Note: we did not encounter any black bear.

It was a very organized, clean and spacious campground. Tricky to get a spot In June but we managed to. It is so frustrating seeing so many "no-shows" (empty sites) with the website showing it's fully booked though. There's a short walk to the lake which was lovely to swim in. We shall be returning :). Thank you.

Our big group of friends camp at Fallen Leaf Lake every summer. We never fail to have a great time. The bears were out in force this year, but we were warned about it upon check in. The facilities were kept clean. The value for the money is fair. We enjoy hanging out at the campground lake, Fallen Leaf, as well as going to the Beacon Bar and Grill beach one day at Camp Richardson. All in all, it was another great trip!

Grandkids had a blast.

Fallen Leaf Lake could be better without the RV's and their unregulated generators. Bears are a major problem. Crowds are staggering. Campground hosts do a good job maintaining the place. Barking dogs are an increasing issue. Tahoe, in general, had seen its better days.

We stayed in Yurt #104. Both of us are seniors & my partner does not want to sleep on the ground ever again. So therefore, it was a win/win. The bathroom & shower area were close by. I appreciate the staff at Fallen Leaf Campground; they were very nice & helpful. I will come back again asap. I have been camping at Fallen Leaf for over 60 yrs now. A wonderful getaway.

My campsite was in a thick forest with lots of trees between other sites. Very private despite the campground being full. The beach is very crowded, only peaceful early in the morning. Drive up Fallen Leaf Lake Road to Angora Lakes was really beautiful. Short day hike to the lakes but must pay $12 day use fee. I parked near the waterfall, just past the fire station at west end of the lake and I took the Angora lakes trail. Steep in places but well worth the effort for those in condition. Beautiful wild flowers in bloom in June and shaded. Great views of the lake, and very quiet. Saw an Osprey. Also road passes Lily Lake trailhead for hikes into desolation wilderness. Insects were abundant in campground with mosquitos and biting flies. Be careful with food because bears were active at night. The rest rooms were clean and crews were good about removing garbage.

Great campground with large campsites so you don't feel to crowded. There are plenty of great hiking and bike trails and the lake was perfect for stand up paddleboarding. The Yurt was nice and beds were comfortable. Only problem with it was the floor is a bit splintery. Bathrooms and showers were well maintained and clean and the showers offered plenty of hot water (coin operated but a single coin was enough normally). Great place to bring kids. 😀
