About Fallen Leaf Campground

Fallen Leaf Campground is situated on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and adjacent to Taylor Creek. The south shore of Lake Tahoe is less than a mile away. The campground features 206 sites that include six yurts and standard tent and RV sites. The campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-October. Fallen Leaf Lake is less crowded and not as well-known as Lake Tahoe, making this a great base camp for exploring the many sights and recreational activities in the area. It's a popular campground and tends to fill quickly.

When I backed my camper into the site there were no signs saying that I had to remain on the pavement no kind of barricade in place to keep me from backing off of the pavement so having said that I backed my camp trailer off of the pavement onto the dirt so the door would clear the tree then backed up a little bit more so the door would clear a big boulder and then proceeded to setup my trailer. I was there 3.5 days with several camp host driving by waving and saying hi the other host noticed that my trailer was setting on the dirt and lost his mind he just started yelling at me that I had to move my trailer now back onto the pavement. He wasn't nice about the whole deal and when I tried talking to him he just kept saying get it moved now. I realize that I broke the rules by backing onto the dirt but at the time of backing up I was unaware of such rules . Long story short we left 1.5 days early because of him being so rude. Another camp host was very nice and explained everything to me but we decided to leave early and cut our vacation short .

Though close to the crowds of Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf was a relaxing, beautiful experience. Especially once we learned where to access the lake from the campground to use our kayaks. The campground host was visible and so friendly and helpful. Same thing with the staff at check in and the little store. Campers were very respectful and honored the quiet hours.

Though close to the crowds of Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf was a relaxing, beautiful experience. Especially once we learned where to access the lake from the campground to use our kayaks. The campground host was visible and so friendly and helpful. Same thing with the staff at check in and the little store. Campers were very respectful and honored the quiet hours.

  • Please Note: One vehicle per single site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicles will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground. Yurt fee includes one vehicle.
  • All campers must register at the campground entrance kiosk. Using the pre-check in will require you to check in with the campground office upon arrival.
  • Reservation holders must be present at check-in
  • Forest Order No. 19-15-01: Prohibits camping for a combined total of no more than 14 days during a calendar year (January-December), forest-wide. Visitors may book campsites annually but the maximum stay may not exceed a total of 14 days each calendar year (January-December).
  • No cooking is permitted inside yurts. Smoking in yurts is prohibited.Yurt rentals do offer electricity for the provided electric light and space heater. There are no additional electric plug-ins.
  • Pets are allowed at all tent and RV sites (a maximum of two pets per site); pets are not permitted in Yurts. No pets on the Beach.
  • The campground is available by reservation only; first-come, first-served sites are not available.
  • Maximum of six people per site and 1 RV per site.
  • Transport or introduction of aquatic invasive species is illegal. Please keep boats clean, drained and dry, and dispose of any debris away from all water sources.Click here for more information.
  • Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. For current fire conditions or weather closures click here for further information Fire Restriction  
  • Reserved Sites will be held until the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.
