Fallen Leaf Lake was gorgeous. Water like glass in the morning and gentle waves here and there later on. Lots of swimming (I was one of two people who went in that I saw, and I was in Heaven)! Saw my first Black Bear and the salmon spawning at Rainbow Bridge. there was some trash left in my campground by the previous campers, but I just picked it up and put it in a trash bag and that was that. One thing I wish had been different was that the camp store was closed even though this season wasn't over. That was the only reason I drove the entire trip --- to go get firewood. It was a wonderful visit and I wish I was back there now.

Facility clean, camp space spacious and not stacked on top of each others. Bathrooms and showers were cleaned multiple times each day. Large shower stalls provide plenty of water volumes and reasonable priced ( note: Fallen Leaf showers are one of the better one during our year long wandering). Access to a dog friendly lake is plus as many other surrounding campgrounds donot allow dogs on their beach. Employees very friendly and helpful and waved hello as they passed by in their utility carts. We did not have reservation but drove up and a helpful kios employee gave us choices of several canceled spots and help us select a great quiet site based upon our criteria.
We saw a total of 6 bears (1 mama bear with 2 cubs, 2 big bears traveling together and one solitary bear ) lumbering thru our camp but never feel endangered as we properly stored our food in the provided bear box. We did hear some nearby campers complaining about bear(s) vandalizing their equipments/campgrounds but as long as one take necessary precautionary and store food in the bear box and discard trash in the bear proof dumpsters , there should be no problem as during the fall these bears only were interested in fattening up for the winter and prefer not to have any interaction with humans or their dogs
Will looking forward to return next year.

Beautiful, peaceful location. Enjoyed lots of space between the campsites. Only problem when we visited was that the water had been shut down due to some problem. If that problem is corrected, I would put it on my list ofexcellent campgrounds to visit.

Beautiful, well managed campground also well maintained except for the roads, which were in very poor condition. Bear activity was high and they are oblivious to people, noise, and other efforts to get them to move out of the campground, even during the day with people and pets around. Access to the lake itself was not well marked and there is an extra $10 charge for the lake access parking lot. Considering the high $41 cost camping for a USFS campground, I'd expect this and the dump station fee ($10) to be included. The good news is that there's a dump station. Given all of the above, I'd stay here again.
