About Meeks Bay Resort

NO PETS ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE AT THE RESORT! Meeks Bay Resort has a long tradition as a family vacation and holiday retreat. It is located on western shore of the famed Lake Tahoe (Da ow aga), far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Washoe Tribe has been a part of the Meeks Bay area of Lake Tahoe (Da ow aga) for many millenium. Their link to the land is an important part of the Meeks Bay Resort charm. It is the perfect spot to recharge those drained reserves and immerse oneself in the spectacular rustic environment.    Enjoy the sandy Meeks Bay beach, or rent a kayak or paddle board and venture out onto blue waters. Explore the hiking trails that lead both north and south along the lake as well as the Meeks Bay Trail which climbs into the Sierra Nevada Desolation Wilderness Area to Phipps Pass and beyond. For more details download the document available from the US Forestry Service.   The Resort has abundant Day-Use parking and a grill for the hungry camper. Stop by the main building for supplies, toys and clothes, and perhaps a chat with one of the Washoe Tribe members.  The resort offers all levels of vacation facilities from the historic Kehlet Mansion and the Washoe House, several cabins and lodges, full hookup RV spots, and standard tent campsites. Many couples have begun their wedded life together and families regularly hold their reunions at the Resort. Group reservations can be made on Recreation.gov or by phone to the call center.   Meeks Bay Campground is now an integral part of the Meeks Bay Resort. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE AT THE RESORT!

What Guests Are Saying

Meeks Bay Resort is praised for its beautiful location near Lake Tahoe, clean facilities, and friendly staff, making it a favorite spot for families and campers. Many visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, lovely beach, and well-maintained campsites, with some returning for decades. However, there are concerns about noise from nearby roads and overcrowding at campsites, along with issues related to staffing and amenities that could use improvement.

Our time camping here was almost perfect! The only thing I would request is for the janitorial team to make sure there is soap and toilet paper in the bathrooms. Many were all out, even after they were cleaned. Also, I was really saddened to see the sorry state many campers leave their sites in when they leave. I saw lots of empty camp sites with bear boxes full of abandoned, rotten food. I spent a lot of my time cleaning up litter while we were there. It’s such a beautiful spot and I really appreciated being able to stay in this special sacred place.

Scheduling and then subsequently trying to cancel this reservation were beyond difficult. You can see the extensive email chains with Travis, your Customer Care Advocate, that started in March 2023 through June 2023. In the end, I was charged $105.50 for a trip I tried to cancel months in advance but could not due to errors in your online system, specifically with the Meeks Bay Resort.

It was great, we had a great time, the campground is right on the lake so it will be colder that others at night. You will also have nightly Bear encounters, and when I say nightly I mean nightly. It is their home, we are just visiting, they wont bother you if you don't bother them. If you have questions, ASK! the staff is really friendly, they want you to enjoy your time at the campground. So if you have questions about what to do in case of a bear encounter, proper food storage, when to stop cooking, etc, ask. A Special name drop to Mauricio, when a momma bear was spooked by us blaring our alarms, he came out, made sure we were safe, but also made sure she and her cubs were safe. A truly unforgettable experience. Instead of being annoyed by our questions, he educated us on what to do, what not to do. The next night another bear came through the campground, not one car alarm was turned on because everyone knew what to do. And we were able to enjoy the Bear sighting from a distance. Its a great campground, great facilities, great staff, you will not regret your stay.

A couple recommendations:
- buy local firewood at least for your first night before you arrive, we went really early in the season so there was plenty scattered that we could forage, but it goes really quick.
- If you plan on showering buy shower tokens early in the day as the store is not always staffed,
- During the busy summer days grab your spot on the beach with your beach chairs early then head back to your campsite, it gets pretty busy with Day use guests.

Beautiful RV spot with a beach and biking trails within resort.Definitely nightly bear activity so, happy we were in a cabin and RV rather than tents. Enjoyed the area and the laid back attitude of the friendly people who ran the resort. The cabins have been there a long time and there are not updates . Very clean but, on the rustic side.
We’ve enjoyed our visits and will be back in a few months.

{"text"=>"The area was beautiful, the water was cold, but cristal clear. The rooms were very clean, but they don't have AC. They have a small fan in the living room, kitchen, and in the rooms, but they don't cool down the rooms. It was hot during nighttime, and the windows didn't have screens, so we could not open the windows late at night. They have the kitchen with many supplies such as pots with lids, plates, forks, spoons, cups, paper towels, etc. The only bad thing we experienced was that the kitchen stove was too old and only 2 of the small burners were working, which made our cooking experience difficult and longer.", "languageCode"=>"en"}
