What Guests Are Saying
Atwell Mill Campground is a beautiful and peaceful location nestled among towering sequoias, offering clean facilities and spacious sites that provide a sense of privacy from neighboring campers. The scenic hikes and serene environment are highlights for visitors, contributing to a tranquil camping experience. However, access to the campground can be challenging due to a long and winding road that may require a high-clearance vehicle, and some campers have reported issues with insects and cleanliness in the bathrooms.

This campground is a long drive from town and Sequoia Nat'l Park. The drive itself is on a long and winding mountain road. It is not for the faint of heart. The campground itself is bare bones but gorgeous. It is remote, so no cell service. But the quiet and the stars are absolutely worth it.

Lots of wasps and a bit scary driving to the campsite, but overall it was great

We loved our experience there! Beautiful place that my kids (age 10 and 7) had a great time just exploring the amazing trees and climbing up the giant tree trunks and are all over the campground. The drive up can be an adventure if you're never been (lots of turns!). Love that two hiking trailheads are right next to the campgrounds. Overall a great experience.
The only negative experience we had was we went to the ranger station for a "campfire" event on a Saturday night and no one was there, not even the ranger. There were no notes or signs left at the ranger station letting people know the event was canceled or anything, so my kids were bummed out about that. Better communications with campers about ranger station events would be great. That one minor hiccup won't prevent us from returning again next year.

We camped at Atwell Mill campground in Sequoia and it was fantastic beautiful campground great amenities we chose Campground 15 which was flat and really had a great time. We went September 6 through the 10th and the weather was a high of 80 and nights were low 60s. There is a trail near our camp that leads down to the river I recommend!

I’ve stayed in Lodgepole a bunch this year. This was my first time in Mineral King. This campground is 10x better. Quieter, no shuttle bus driving around polluting. No parking lot where traffic is funneled. Campground was near empty. Such a better camping experience. Save yourself the headache of the more popular campground and head out to Atwell campground.

Great campsite, a little out of the way of the main park, but it was nice to have some peace and quiet. Would definitely go back.

Absolutely stunning place! You are in the trees! The road is a bit grueling to go up and down but staying here and hiking the Mineral King area is the BEST! Very few people venture up, you often have times of complete solitude. Easy access to trash bins, bathroom, running water, and several trail heads. Park ranger informed us that during the summer marmots are not a problem in the campground but might be a problem at the end of the road. We saw a mamma bear and her cub frequently here, use of the near by bear box was very easy. I recommend this campground to anyone who is trying to skip the super touristy parts of Sequoia, it is magical!

The campsite we chose, number 18, has very little shade and is all on a bit of an incline. The bathrooms were really pungent and not well maintained. It is a beautiful area with straight access to Hockett trail. We took an afternoon nap on top of one of the giant stumps from its mill days.
