What Guests Are Saying

Horse Creek Campground offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere, making it a delightful choice for families and nature enthusiasts. While some amenities, particularly restrooms and showers, were closed or in poor condition, many visitors appreciated the cleanliness of the portable toilets and the overall beauty of the site. The campground's proximity to Sequoia National Park and friendly rangers contributed to a positive experience for most campers, despite minor maintenance issues.

So few campsites are level for RV’s so choose your site carefully. Space 74 that I stayed in had great views of the lake.

The grounds were clean, plenty of space between sites and the staff was very friendly and very nice. We have another trip planned there in a few weeks

Horse Creek Campground is an incredible place to rest and relax for a few days. You are also sitting very close to the entrance to Sequoia National Park. Great value. Bath and shower houses are cleaned daily and were spotless. Plenty of water fill spots throughout the campground.  Double dump station.  All sites offer a great view of the lake.  Some sites are more suited for big rigs than others.  Be sure to carefully review their website before making a selection.

Great campsite with amazing views. Restrooms/showers were serviced each morning. Rangers were friendly and professional. The Recreation.gov app made reservations and check-in seamless.

The afternoons in May were very warm (90F-105F). We managed this by lounging in the cooler morning time and swimming in the lake or visiting Sequoia Nat'l Park (just 1 hour up the road) in the afternoons.

Plan for aggressive red ants (it is their home after all), to include maintaining a tidy campsite, discouraging children from playing near the anthills, and packing insect repellent and bite treatments.

Watch your downhill speed if you drive into town. The roads are well maintained, and it is easy to end up at unsafe speeds before you realize it. The local law enforcement are quite vigilant in this regard.

Very good campsite for the price ($20/night). My only real criticism and advice would be to check the campsite number. Each site is not the same by any means, and the pictures can be a little misleading. We had booked site 18 for three nights, eight people. We immediately saw it was on a slope and would barely fit one tent. The ranger easily let us switch to site 20 since it was open for the dates we needed, so that worked out well.

The sites are very close together. You can hear everything from the sites around you. If you’re not close to the lake, you’re probably close to the highway and can hear cars all night. None of these things bothered me, just good to know.

Showers and bathrooms were cleaned daily and water was warm and good pressure.

The staff was hit or miss. Everyone we spoke to on the phone and rangers were very polite and helpful. Whatever staff is in the orange golf cart (maintenance, perhaps?) were extremely rude. Granted, we were breaking a rule by letting our dog off leash, but they were ridiculously rude in the way they spoke to us. Our dog was well behaved, never left our campsite, and was sitting at the picnic table with us when they yelled at us. Fine, leashed the dog. Later I heard them berating another group of people just looking to drive in and see the lake for a moment. Just rude for no reason. Both the man and woman who were in the cart had no manners. Avoid speaking to them and go directly to the host or rangers if you need help.

Overall, great stay. Would stay here again.

This campground really didn't meet expectations. The bathroom was rather disgusting, there was no soap stocked the entire stay, and closing the camp down to inbound traffic at 10pm seems extreme. It kind of felt like a jail. Some people, like myself, enjoy doing activities such as astrophotography inside the national parks, but weren't able to do that because of a random curfew. The use of tire popping spikes in the outbound lane takes it to another level. This campground was far from being upscale, it's dry and basic, so why the extreme measures to keep people out after 10? Calm down, NPS, you're literally managing a dirt patch next to a lake. 😂
