Lodgepole Campground is located in the breathtaking Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California's rugged Sierra Nevada range. Lodgepole is perched on the banks of the scenic and lengthy Marble Fork of the Kaweah River, at an elevation of 6,700 ft. The inspiring Giant Forest Grove and the mighty General Sherman Tree - the world's largest tree in volume - are just two miles from the campground.

Trip was overall good. We were in site 3 which is close to the store and restaurant, a plus if you have young children. Down side is a lot of foot traffic past your campsite constantly. The first night a groups of people played music and were super loud until midnight. Really making us tired for the next day’s activities. We spent 3 days and 2 nights at lodgepole and it was fun. Water level was low so it’s easy to play in the river and a lot of fire wood to collect.

Great place to camp, plenty of things to do and the lodgepole lodge is vwry convienant. Everything you forgot to bring can be found, including showers and ice cream lol.

I stayed for four nights during the week of June 29, and everything about the experience exceeded my expectations.

The online reservation system was excellent—simple, efficient, and easy to use. I also really appreciated the reminder/notification feature that alerts you when a campsite becomes available due to a cancellation. It’s a great system that makes planning much easier.

The campsites were spotless and well maintained. The restrooms were always clean and in good working order. I was also impressed by how respectful and considerate the other campers were. Even with families, tents, and barbecues throughout the campground, everything became quiet after about 9:30 p.m., making for very peaceful nights.

The park staff and rangers were outstanding. Everyone I met was friendly, welcoming, and always happy to answer questions or provide assistance.

One amenity I especially appreciated was the shower facility located near the Visitor Center. After a full day of hiking, being able to take a shower right in the park was a real treat. The quarter-operated system was simple and convenient. The only minor drawback was that the water was only lukewarm rather than truly hot. That said, after a long day on the trails, even a cool shower felt refreshing—and probably wasn’t a bad thing for tired muscles!

I also expected heavy traffic since it was just before the Fourth of July holiday, but everything went surprisingly smoothly. There was no significant congestion on the roads, and I always found parking available at the trailheads.

Overall, I had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back next year. There are still many hikes I’d like to explore, and I especially look forward to spending more time in the magnificent Giant Forest. Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks are truly exceptional places, and I highly recommend them.

  • If your campsite remains vacant for 24 hours after your arrival date it will be cancelled and made available on rec.gov. You will be charged for the first night's campsite fee and a $20 cancellation fee, all other fees after that will be refunded. Recreation.gov policies apply to all reservations, cancellations, refunds and date changes.  Call (559) 565-4404 if you will be arriving 24 hours after your arrival date so your site won't be cancelled. To leave a message call (559) 565-3714.Upon making a campground reservation: Site occupants agree to follow ALL campground rules. Failure to comply may result in a fine. You are responsible for your guests. 
  • Quiet Hours 10pm to 6am- Music, talking, and generators should not be audible beyond your immediate campsite. Unreasonable noise is prohibited any time of day.
  • Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki . Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Visitors with vehicles over 22 feet in total length hoping to visit the Giant Forest or camp at Lodgepole and Dorst Creek Campgrounds are advised to enter via the northern, Highway 180, entrance to these parks.
  • Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.  Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger.
  • A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets.
