What Guests Are Saying

Lodgepole Campground is highly praised for its beautiful natural surroundings, convenient amenities like the market and cafe, and excellent hiking access, making it a favorite among visitors. Campers enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, respectful fellow campers, and opportunities for stargazing and wildlife sightings, including bears. While some noted the close proximity of campsites and occasional cleanliness issues in the bathrooms, the overall experience is considered memorable and worth recommending.

Loved the camping area. The use of the shuttles to visit the sites was awesome. The store on site was good. I am not sure if the day I tried to take a shower there was an issue, but the water was never hot, so that was brutal.
I can't wait to go back; recommended.

I still can't understand why these National Park bathrooms do not have lights. One of the three toilet stalls near campsite 93 was broken for the three nights we were there. Why wasn't it fixed? In addition, for campsite 93, you don't park your car in the campsite, it is about 40 ft away. This campsite is semi-isolated against the bottom of the mountain, so it's just you and whatever Wildlife is up the hill. Also the shower/bathroom at the entrance has only one toilet stall built for a little person, or respectfully, an amputee. When will they get it then when amenities are good, and in abundance, more people will visit these parks.

Great Stay at Lodgepole — Privacy, Bears, and Smart Convenience!

We recently stayed at Lodgepole Campground, and Campsite 62 turned out to be an ideal spot. It offers convenient proximity to the restrooms while providing noticeable privacy compared to the other sites grouped close together. Campsite 64 is another great option if you're looking for a bit more space from neighbors.

A quick word of advice: I would not recommend pitching a tent late at night. About 30 minutes after we arrived at midnight, we encountered a mama black bear and her two cubs—a frightening, though certainly exciting, start to our trip! Also, be aware that yellow jackets were a noticeable problem at site 62. As soon as they smelled food, 5 or 6 would hover around, especially near the bear locker. (There may be a nest nearby, so keep food covered and in the bear locker for bears and yellow jackets!)

Shuttle & Attractions: The General Sherman Tree is a quick 15-minute drive away. Even better, the park shuttle picks up right in front of the restrooms, running every 15 minutes from 8 AM to 6 PM.

Cell Service & Campfires: We had good Verizon coverage throughout our stay. Unlike lower-elevation sites like Potwisha Campground where there was no Verizon coverage and campfires were prohibited. Fire pits were allowed even late summer (Aug 31-Sept 2). Note it was easier to scout deadwood while hiking and exploring other parts of the park than around the campsite.

Lodgepole Market Village: The market village is close by for supplies. If you plan to use the showers, bring plenty of quarters—note that the water is lukewarm rather than hot. The Market Village owns the shower facilities, but when we went, they were out of quarters. If that happens to you, head over to the grill next door to get change!

Overall, a fantastic basecamp for Sequoia. Just stay bear-aware and enjoy the convenient setup!

The toilet in the men's public shower is made for dwarfs. The men's bathroom at the visitor center and at the shuttle pickup were filthy. The shuttle service and drivers were outstanding. The market had excellent food with a nice variety of food. I loved the ice cream. The camp site was excellent. I enjoyed hiking on the trails and they were safe for entire family. The camp site public bathrooms needs better sanitation procedures. Overall, I gave lodgepole camp site a 3 out of 5.

The lodgepole campsite is very well maintained and it is located in a great location for both visiting the most famous Sequoia trees as well as for hiking to the sub-Alpine and Alpine areas of the park. I really enjoyed the hike to the Twin Lakes
