Lodgepole Campground is located in the breathtaking Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California's rugged Sierra Nevada range. Lodgepole is perched on the banks of the scenic and lengthy Marble Fork of the Kaweah River, at an elevation of 6.7 ft. Campground and facilities are in great shape, the setting is beautiful, and the evening ranger talk in the amphitheater is always a highlight. But the campsites are so crowded together, and the overall vibe among the guests is so "all-night party people," that between the noise until 1am and the density of wood smoke even on a very warm night, it's pretty hard to enjoy. My family and I have come to think of Lodgepole as a necessary ordeal on the way to backcountry backpacking trips away from the crowds and noise and smoke.

Tokopah Trail is perfect trail found inside the campground.
Unfortunately, meat bees and black bears were rampant. Black bears tried to get into the bear boxes every single night.Bees were at every sight. I had to leave one night early for this reason. I did not get a refund to spite leaving for dangerous reasons as I am allergic to bees.

Staff was fantastic. Every ranger, employee was polite and helpful. The csmpground was simple and well used, and clean. The showers were clean but not consistent hot water and very short in time

We arrived at the campground after dark. This made it challenging to identify bathrooms and water sources near our location. Signage would have helped. Otherwise, we had a lovely time at the Lodgepole Campground. Our spot near the creek was perfect.
The staff at the visitor center were very helpful. We easily secured our backcountry permits and bear canister rentals.
We will recommend this spot to family and friends.

This site is just marvelous, but not beginner friendly.
Some things to note:
You have to walk from the car which isn’t too far, but can get tiring. Bring a wagon or things on wheels.
Also all the sites near here have a hornet problem and they’re very attracted to meat. All our neighbors had a canopy with bug netting around the picnic table which I think is smart.

Beware: bears and wildlife do pass through here. Take the bear locker seriously!! We literally had a mother bear with 3 cubs walk through and had to scare them away.

We went in August and the water nearby was swimmable but not a powerful stream of water.

We came camping as a group of serious hikers. We did 3 amazing hikes. My favorite was to Pear Lake. The campgrounds were set up great. The trails are kept in perfect condition.

Location close to visitor center is good and bad. Good if you need something and access to bus, bad with traffic and noise from the road at a lot of locations. The bathrooms are a little old, I did not see cleaning in 3 days. If you need to wash your dishes there are no good public options, only the bathroom sink... Spacing is good, not a lot of shade at multiple locations.

Beautiful campground, fantastic amenities. Stayed in an "upper" walk-in tentsite. Lots of room. great fire pit, beautiful surroundings. One of the best NP campgrounds I have stayed in (watch our for some of the campgrounds in Yosemite and Zion!).

  • If your campsite remains vacant for 24 hours after your arrival date it will be cancelled and made available on rec.gov. You will be charged for the first night's campsite fee and a $20 cancellation fee, all other fees after that will be refunded. Recreation.gov policies apply to all reservations, cancellations, refunds and date changes.&nbsp; Call (559) 565-4404 if you will be arriving 24 hours after your arrival date so your site won't be cancelled. To leave a message call (559) 565-3714.Upon making a campground reservation: Site occupants agree to follow ALL campground rules. Failure to comply may result in a fine. You are responsible for your guests.&nbsp;
  • Quiet Hours 10pm to 6am- Music, talking, and generators should not be audible beyond your immediate campsite. Unreasonable noise is prohibited any time of day.
  • Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki . Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Visitors with vehicles over 22 feet in total length hoping to visit the Giant Forest or camp at Lodgepole and Dorst Creek Campgrounds are advised to enter via the northern, Highway 180, entrance to these parks.
  • Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible.  Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger.
  • A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets.
