Sentinel Campground offers a beautiful setting with spacious, shaded sites and proximity to the river, making it ideal for hiking and outdoor activities. Many visitors appreciate the serene atmosphere and the campground's access to nearby amenities, such as the store and ranger programs. However, the facilities, particularly the restrooms, are in disrepair and require maintenance, which detracts from the overall experience.

Sentinel in the Fall is very nice. We set up camp in the early afternoon and remarked that it sure didn't seem full. So we were surprised when the ranger told us later that it was fully reserved that day. The spaces are far enough apart and well placed so it sure doesn't "feel" full. Camp was quiet and there were never crowds at the facilities. The Cedar Grove lodge is walking distance and we ate there one night. Food was good and price was definitely reasonable. Oh, and the staff was very cheerful. We fished up at Road's End and Zumwalt but not at Sentinel. There are spots but the river gets a lot of swimmers from the campground so we went to less crowded spots. No cel coverage for ATT but was able to text message via satellite. Not fast but doable if you need to get a quick message out. All in all a place to visit in the Fall.

We recently found this campground. We are very pleased to have found it! It's deep in the canyon with amazing views on the way. Campsite 53 is what a perfect campsite is.
This campground is walkable to the river. There are bears in the area. So follow the rules! Since this campground is deep in the canyon, always check on your camp checklist! In-n-out is about 2-3 hrs. This campground is def our favorite!

The restroom was in poor shape; backed up toilets, flooded floor and nonfunctional sink. The nearest 2nd choice was a thousand feet away. Not an ideal situation for tent campers.

We originally planned to book Site #30 which is closer to the meadow. But the booking was packed and w e ended up with Site 40. No regret whatsoever, Site 40 has its own paved driveway for parking our car close to our tent location, which was covered by trees with a very flat ground. We will be back next year for Site 40. The only reason I did not give a 5 was the neighbors was not following the quite time rule and still was loud playing card games for two nights. I hope the camp host can circle the camp group at 10 pm to enforce the rule. Otherwise, it was a fully enjoyable 4 day 3 night trip.

I've been staying is sentinel campground for many years. Its been 10 years since I was last there. Like other campgrounds its difficult to get a reservation now. Used to be 1st come. That's the state of camping in Cali especially. Anyway we had a great time the grounds are very well kept and saw a Juvenal black bear every afternoon wandering through the campground. Every one did the right thing yelling at it, banging on things to chase him away. You must make the bear unwelcome. As cute as it was they cant be allowed to hang around. Love it there. A little sketchy towing our trailer on parts of the road getting there but worth it once settled in. Most of the sites are small and our 24 ft trailer and my truck were shoehorned in. All good.
