What Guests Are Saying
Sheep Creek Campground offers a beautiful and private setting with clean facilities and friendly park personnel. It's an ideal spot for exploring the Kings River area, with spacious campsites and abundant free firewood. While there are some concerns about wildlife and theft, many guests highly recommend the campground for relaxation and nature experiences.

I mean there is a few folks who make noise past the curfew on the weekends but other than that it’s one glorious stay!!!

The ranger came by only once on the first day. Quiet hours and party size were not enforced. People kept their fires on and voice up even after 11 PM. The one site next to me had at least 10 people and 5 tents, and they somehow had 3 picnic tables as we saw after they left. I’m pretty sure they took the table from us and another site, as we didn’t have one when we arrived. The toilets ran out of paper and all trash lockers were full.

Ranger Ela welcomed me so nicely with a check in and helped me figure out water source since the spigot by my site was not working. The restroom was clean. I like the campground but the experience depends on your neighbors. The sites in the middle and those further in the back seems great for flat spots. Those on the sides seems to have uneven grounds.
I arrived Weds to spend a night before my backpacking trip. It was great until 9pm when inconsiderate campers across my site arrived and turned on super bright lights (camp & car head lights) like there's a movie shoot - I was awakened by it. Other than their stationary light, everyone seems to be holding their own handheld super bright lights and the reflection moves as they walk around - felt like I have a disco scene at my site. I waited 2hrs to let them set up and then approached them nicely about the lights; they only turned the main light around so it won't point at me but it took til past midnight to wind down on all other beaming lights including their cars' headlights!
If you will be camping here (or anywhere) please be courteous to your fellow campers - lights, sounds, tidiness etc especially if you are arriving late/towards quiet time. Everyone wants to enjoy time being in nature and I am sure you do not want your experience ruined by rude visitors.

Campsite was clean when we arrived. All rivers we went to were peaceful. Not too many campers which was a plus for me. Only one thing I had a concern is the bathroom do not have light at night. Solar lights at least outside restroom. It's dark after 9pm. My opinion.

This campground was very clean & close to a lot of points of interest in Kings Canyon. Being close to the river was also a plus.

The campsite is quiet and by the river. There is no problem with the campsite. The website to reserve a campsite, however, was quite difficult to use. We had to set a timer 30 days before we wanted to go and be on the website right at midnight when a campsite became available because the website lists all sites reserved for up to 30 days. But when we got to the actual location (30 days later)- 80% of all the campsites were empty but had "reserved" signs on them. So what the reservation website is listing is incorrect information. And "no-shows" need to be penalized financially for not canceling so that people who want to camp are able to get a site if it is not occupied. The park no longer allows walk-up camping so we could not just drive in and find a site. Online reservation is required and you have to reserve 30 days in advance. But at the location, the whole campground was basically empty either because the website makes it so difficult to reserve or because over 20 families decided not to show up that week. Someone needs to be more attentive to the user experience for reserving sites online. And make it expensive to not show up since it robs others of a chance to stay in the park.

Been coming here 43 years! Awesome place! Always worth it! Only thing I would ask is for visitors to cancel their reservations online if they can’t make it, so that more campsites are available to those who can make it and want a great campsite; otherwise park system should consider going back to first come first serve. We were there this month (August) and over 75% of the campsites (Sheep Creek) said reserved but were unoccupied for at least the week we were there but showed as reserved online. Keeping Sentinel campground on reservation only I can see continuing- I understand reservation only has its benefits, but a return to first come first serve for Sheep Creek & Moraine would make more sense.

.Tire Chains may be required at any time. Be prepared at any time of year for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Check Road Conditions at nps.gov/seki. Vehicles longer than 22 feet (including trailers) are not advised between Potwisha Campground and the Giant Forest Museum. Dangerous Rivers! Many drowning victims were playing near rivers. Rivers present a far greater danger than lakes or pools. Surfaces may look calm, but strong currents often run below. Be cautious walking near rivers as rocks can be slippery. Getting out of a cold, swift river is often impossible. Falling Objects - Don't linger under dead, cracked, or broken branches. Run if you hear cracks or snapping from tree roots, trunks, or branches (know that sometimes there is no sound, and very little time to react). Report falling branches or trees to a ranger. A California state fishing license is required to fish in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Sequoia National Forest lakes and streams. Fishing licenses may be available at National Park and National Forest markets. |
