Sunset Campground (CA)

Sites were very spaced out. Access to nearby trails was great. Views of the sunset were beautiful and restrooms were clean. Putting all of our food/ scented items in the bear box was a little inconvenient, but understood the reason.

Campground was very well located, but the sites are very close together and not very big, so you really don't get much privacy - our tent was only about 4 feet from the tent at the site next to us, and was really the only flat spot we could set it up on.

We reserved campsites 22-24. Bathroom was close and very clean just make sure to take your own hand soap. There was shade most of the time. Many bees that swarmed us during our meals. Nice campsite for beginners since there is service, a store, and a visitor center close by. Would recommend reserving the outer campsites since the ones in the middle don’t have much privacy and neighbors are close. Also great hiking trails that start in the entrance of the campsite we did Viola Falls!

The campsite was beautiful and great hikes right from the campground. There were a lot of yellow jackets that would swarm your food, that is my only warning. Otherwise it was great!

Beautiful campground oveally but this could benefit from having some rangers or employees on site. TONS of people with fires during the fire ban, many sits with 12+ people (rules say no more than 6), noise until 2am minimum, filthy bathrooms etc. sad to see such a stunning piece of land degraded and disrespected. I initially thought the reviews complaining about the noise and rule breaking were exaggerating but now firmly agree that this campground is one of the most unkempt I have visited. There were also tons of barking dogs during all hours of the day and night, the bathrooms were never cleaned, and the lack of privacy led to a lot of children in our site and extremely close tents. Overall I do not recommend. This review is also coming from a 23 year old who typically does not mind noise and interaction with my fellow campers but this location was out of hand.
