The Jumbo Rocks Campground is in a convenient central location for exploring the park. The huge rocks and desert plants give it a great ambiance. We enjoyed the ranger programs at the amphitheater in the campground and used the hiking trails that are accessible from it without having to drive.

Coming to Joshua tree since the mid 70s I’ve pretty much covered the whole park and have narrowed down the areas I’d like to meander the most one of them is jumbo rock Campground, and the area north of it and south of it but now I’ve been told that I can only spend 14 nights in Joshua tree. This will be hard for me as I usually stay 30 nights total over several trips.

Wonderful open skies, rocks to climb, paths to hike. Note that it is sandy and bring your own water.

The Best camping site in Joshua Tree. Awesome scenery in any direction. It seems because of all the Jumbo Raocks you can use them for cover from sun. It also helps with the blocking out of what lights there is. From the surrounding City and Military Base. Its so fantastic at night. Im a happier more relax person due to that magical place call Joshua Tree...

My family and I stay Fri-Sun at site 1. The sight is spacious and clean, the only downside is everyone entering or exiting will look in the sight, not too much privacy.
I had a 6 person tent and 2 other large structures and never felt cramped. The campground is well maintained with only no flush toilets available. I highly recommend this campground!

beautiful area! the rocky outcroppings were gorgeous. it was fantastic being in the park to get an early start on hikes in the AM. the spaces are very close together, but thats to be expected. the bathroom was locked late at night - i thought that was odd, and it may have just been the one by out site, but still -- why am I paying $50 and still not getting access to a bathroom?! Other than that it was great! very quiet at night even though there were hundreds of people packed in there!
