It was a beautiful spot. The jumbo rocks made it seem really private. The night sky was magnificent and it was very clean. All the park staff that came by were very friendly

If you have 4x4 the park has so much more to offer. We traveled through Berdoo Canyon to enter the park. Well worth the extra 30min.

Great Campground, right in between the rocks. Great location within the park, skull rock walkable from the campground. Great sunset and sunrise spot. At night coyotes howling right next door, awesome!
No water or shower, but toilets are there and clean!

Overall: Beautiful campground, but I’d choose a different campsite next time.
Finding our site was a little confusing because the parking spot is a walk from the actual campsite. Site 29 was especially confusing—those campers accidentally set up next to site 27 late at night, which led to some frustrated campers and even an angry note mistakenly left on our car.
Site 28 also had very little privacy. People walked right past our tent all night to use the restroom/go to their car, and the nearby campers were talking, coughing, and even inflating an air mattress at 2 AM.
That said, the sunrises, sunsets, and giant rock formations were incredible, and we loved exploring right around our campsite!
Would stay at Jumbo Rocks again—just a different campsite. I also think more ranger check-ins would help with the confusing site layout!

The specific area we reserved was very small, we could barely fit the tent. A large group of people had 3 tenets 8 ft away from us, they were very loud and people coming or going all through the night. Fires were prohibited, our children’s first camping trip was not so great.

I stayed 1 nite at Jumbo Rocks site #8. For how small the site is, privacy was decent due to foliage. It has 2 spots where a tent could be pitched. The flatter spot is in the open close to the road. There is no shelter over the picnic table. The outhouse with pit toilet is close by. I would have given a lower rating, but a passable cleft between the rocks behind sites 7 & 8 provided an avenue to explore the Jumbo Rocks landscape on the other side. This was a highlight of my trip to the park, away from the crowds.

Jumbo Rocks Campground is accessible via California State Route 62, which is approximately 15 miles to the south, connecting to the town of Twentynine Palms.

General
- Download the NPS app prior to visiting the park – trail maps and more!
- Reservations are required year round and can be made the same day or up to 6 months in advance.
- A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out (noon) time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time (noon) on the day following the arrival date.
- The park allows six people, two vehicles and three tents per site, however, some sites are small and may not accommodate the maximum number of people and vehicles. See Site Details for specifics. There is no overflow parking. Trailers count as a vehicle.
- Please call 760-367-5554 for information.
- $30 per vehicle entrance fee is in addition to camping fee.
- There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites; nor is a dump station located nearby. Potable water is available at the Oasis Visitor Center, 11 miles away.
- Generator use is permitted only from 7–9 am, noon–2 pm, and 5–7 pm.
- Pets are not allowed on trails but are welcome in the campground, on any dirt road or within 100 feet of any road. Pets must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long at all times. Pets may not be left unattended or tied to an object; leaving pets in unattended vehicles is strongly discouraged – especially on warm days.
- Don’t Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near the park and burning it on-site, and do not use park vegetation, living or dead, for fuel.
- All organized events require a special use permit and must be held in designated areas; contact the Special Park Use Coordinator, [email protected].
- Cancelling a Reservation: Customers may cancel their reservation prior to arrival both on-line and through the call center. A $10 service fee will be withheld from any refund for a cancellation. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation. Late Cancellation Fees: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee.
- STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. Remove plants, seeds, animals, and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicles. Clean your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. Stay on designated roads and trails, and follow local guidelines for firewood. For more information visit the National Invasive Species Information Center.
- FIRE BAN fire restriction are currently in effect that prohibit charcoal fires, wood-burning fires, and charcoal grills. NO Fires! Only gas or propane stoves are permitted. Starting June 15, ending October 1st of every year.
