Brandy Creek RV Campground

This was a great campground that we just happened upon on our recent trip to Whiskeytown! We loved the location, level parking, and picnic tables. It was super helpful to have a dump station right there, too. We used the hiking trails down to the beach, which was lots of fun for our boys to play on. The only thing that could have been better would be to add a firepit to each campsite. We'd love to stay again!

We knew the weather was going to be sketchy, but we decided to go anyway, since we were breaking in our new trailer. The camp host stopped by, very friendly, and let us know that a generator had been stolen in our exact location, upon which I responded with - I lock mine to the trailer. He then informed me that the campground is frequented by a black bear, and that it was docile.

I packed everything in for the night and the next morning, sure thing, bear prints on the back hatch of the trailer where I keep the grill and griddle. The next morning, I made a good breakfast on the griddle outside, and must have splattered some grease and hash-browns because not long after dark, I was outside listening to music, having a cigar when the bear came back. It got withing less than 10 feet of me before I knew it was there. I did the loud tall stomping yelling thing and she could pretty much care less until I started chucking branches her way. Up the tree she went - great. I took a few more puffs off the cigar and decided for her sake and for mine that I better get back inside. She came back later, paid us a visit again, and was just outside the trailer door, "cleaning up." She ran off when I opened the door, unsure if she ever came back that night. That's the closest bear experience I've ever had, except through a tent wall. I really hope people aren't feeding her, as she seems very tamed and used to people, it's going to go bad for her and others if she gets to used to us.

Other than that, and actually including that, we enjoyed our stay, making tourists of ourselves, looking at all the burn areas, and checking out a couple falls nearby. Too bad the bridge to Whiskytown is out. Only negative thing I have to say is the non-potable water spigot does not have threads so I was unable to use the tank spray feature built into our trailer. I bought an adapter that I hope will work for next time.

Soon, we're off to 49er in Plymouth, then Bodega Bay - see you around out there.

Camp host was very nice and helpful, it was quiet, close to the lake and the water and sewer were easy to access as this was a dry camp.

Due to California wildfires in the national forests, we were the only camper besides the campground hosts in the campground. Smoke was very hazardous upon our arrival and thankfully we were not told to turn off our generator at night since the air quality was so bad, we had to operate our air conditioner to be safe indoors. The spaces are all paved asphalt with concrete picnic tables, good size for one single vehicle to 30 feet maximum. There are a few extra parking spaces, but do not count on them if towing. There are no hookups, but there is a dump station and potable water. The lake is kept full from the lake above, so boating is nice. Expect warm to hot temperatures late summer. Visitor center closed in August of our visit. Most park roads were closed too. Covid and Park fires have become an obstacle to visiting our national parks.
