This was the second time camping here and I loved it. Small area, river, trailhead. Very peaceful.

Very nice, clean grounds. 2 vault toilets available, both were usable but one smelled a lot more than the other. Toilets are adjacent to sites 4 & 5, and across from site 6.
We stayed in site 3, which was very nice although you CANNOT drive up to your site. You must park before a small footbridge and hike your gear to your site. Sites 1, 2 & 3 are all on the other side of the bridge, and are probably the largest of the 9 at this location. Will be back

Honestly, I’m stuck between a 3 or 4 star.
Pros:
Clean bathrooms, small campground, sound of water/some creek access, close range to Whiskeytown Lake, bear boxes, trash/recycling that actually gets cleaned out.
Cons: sites 8 and 9 do not have and sort of access to the creek because it’s so overgrown/not cleared. Site 9 is TINY. Site 8 was a good size but exposed and gets blasted by the sun. Site 7 is a good one. Site 6 has so decent space but very exposed to the road. Sites 4/5 are right on top of eachother and next to the bathroom. 2,3,4 are also super close to each other, 1 is probably the best.
Best access to the creek is right by the entrance to the campground at the bridge. The creek is LOVELY in June. So clear and flowing great.

Quiet, simple, nicely protected from sun. Kanaka Peak Trail is a must do with rewarding views at the top.
RTT users beware: sites 1-3 cannot be used for RTT use. Site 5 is the best RTT spot.

The staff and rangers were very polite and friendly. There was a sighting of a rattlesnake in campsite #5, we called in and they sent out a park ranger to relocate the animal. The officer arrived within the hour and allowed us to move to a different campsite for the night. The campsite was clean and shaded. Overall a great experience.

We had to pick up trash from our site. Before we could set up.
Firepit was covered....wasnt supposed to be covered during our visit. Other than that, it was beatiful. Running creek, lots of birds, saw a deer next to our site. Lots of hiking trails. Did have a mt biker go right thru our campsite....no big deal....trail entrance was at our site. Other campers were kind and dogs were leashed...it was a peaceful quiet visit.

I love this campground . Yes it’s primitive but it’s so lovely . The creek is beautiful and refreshing and the campground is secluded and charming.

It was quite. The shade was nice and lasted much of the day, The sound from the creek was soothing, Not far from the lake, Good thing we had our propane firepit as I can't imagine a camping trip without a fire. Trees did drip drops of black stuff but it washed off of the tents and whatever else caught one of them, Over we had a good time and would do it again,

The entire campground is very nice and private. The creek is within walking distance from all the sites. It's great for families, and it's very quiet. The only thing that may bother some is the sap that continuously drips from some oak trees. It gets on everything. Other than that, it's a great place.

Normally I have a wonderful time at the site, but this time we had to deal, not once but twice, spraying near or around the area. Forcing us to leave 2 days early. No care for the campers or even a concern. Just right to spraying. Communication with the rangers and checking Recreation.gov to check on sites that are reserved before heading out there. A bit of privacy invading while we attempted to enjoy the last few days there. Poor judgement on whoever is in charge.
