Crane Flat Campground

Crane Flat has pleasant shade and is relatively close to the Valley itself. Make sure you bring a headlamp for any evening bathroom breaks because the bathrooms are not illuminated. Also, we needed to bring our own hand soap since there wasn't any of that either. We were thankful for the table and fire ring at the camp site and very kind/helpful park rangers. Would be happy to come and stay again!

Had an amazing experience at Crane Flat for my first solo trip. Campsite and facilities were clean and tidy. As for #436, a few steps down from the car port is the bench, fire ring and bear locker. There was a level tent area just behind the bushes (with a little path between them).

It was nearly perfect. Potable water that tasted slightly sweet and utterly refreshing--we loved it. Dishwashing station with clear instructions. Flushing toilets. Clean and tidy bear boxes. Flat site for laying down tents. Beautiful surroundings. The car was parallel parked on a pull-out along the standard paved road, then from there, we climbed a short length of stairs to reach our chosen spot. We actually liked this just fine. It was rather novel. This is a very popular campsite, so you will be surrounded by neighbors on all fronts. One of our neighbors snored rather loud, which led to a funny scare when I woke up in the middle of the night thinking there was a bear growling nearby. Only problem was we had cheap tent stakes that all broke during the removal process because the ground at our spot was so so hard. It was also really difficult to drive the stakes in.

The trees and surrounding nature were beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Very friendly staff/volunteers, great campsites and easy accessible bathrooms and water. Quiet area.

Had a blast with my friends at this campsite! We were right next to the bathrooms so no hiking up a mountain in the pitch black! We were able to fit two tents: a one person tent and a two person tent! There was room for maybe even one more! The slope is not that bad after an 8 hour hike this “slope” was nothing. The bathrooms don’t have soap or showers, but they do have flushable toilets! There is a gas station right next to the entrance, and if you’re willing to drive farther into town you’ll reach another one across from a small grocery store which is also near some restaurants and a motel. BEWARE stores close early but the gas is available 24hrs. So if you’re needing firewood/ice go before 7pm. I will definitely be seeking out this exact campsite in the future :)

Quiet at night (although that's luck of the draw at most campgrounds).

Very large campsite, was able to fit two larger vehicles. Short walk to the bathroom, pretty decent privacy depending on what your neighbors are like. Pad slopes slightly to towards the campsite but pretty flat.

Excellent campground. We definitely could tell we are in Yosemite however far enough away from the busy part to feel the calm and peace of this beautiful park and have bears near the campground. We averaged about 30 mins of driving to reach Yosemite Valley and those trails. We are less than 5 mins from a gas station with small store and Tuolumne Meadows. Rangers and host were friendly and helpful. Not too far away from the scenic Tunnel View.

What a lovely campground--one of our favorite in a long time! So glad we ended up at Crane Flat and not other places in the park. We had a fantastic, quiet four-night stay. The camp host was super helpful and welcoming.
