Crane Flat is a misnomer - not flat at all! We had a site in the 500 loop. It was more like camping on the side of a very steep and not well graded hill. We couldn’t find a flat area to pitch a 2 person backcountry tent and it was really difficult to park a car on such a steep incline. Trying to boil water and prep dinner on a tilted table was interesting. Other sites seemed far flatter - look carefully.
Note there’s no electricity and virtually no reflective signs so trying to find the campsite in the dark and the steep hilly site made setup very interesting!

Our family has stayed at Crane Flat 3 years in a row. We love this campground and had a great experience each year. The spots are a good size and there is water and bathrooms on each loop. The bathroom we used is clean but old. It's outside of the valley which means no traffic and much quieter. There is lots of hiking options nearby as well as a general store/gas station. The valley is about an hour away so you do have to travel each day if your activities are mainly focused in that area.

The campsite we were at was at the far end of the loop, a bit of a distance from the toilet facility and water source. That was about the only drawback. It was the only site available when we looked, so we were fortunate to get it. The sites were good sized, allowing two tents to be put up. A gas station is located nearby, but a bit on the pricey side. Not much of an option if you need gas though. There were ranger presentations in the evening across the road from the campground; bring bug repellent for those.

Quiet, central location to camp at Yosemite. Easy drive to Hetch Hetch, Valley, and others. Everyone at the campground were quiet. Easy hikes near by.

Our campsite was on the corner of loop 100 next to the aptly nicknamed "Bear Meadow". We had tried (and failed) for a couple months trying to get a spot in Crane Flat, but I must say the experience once we finally got there did not disappoint. It is conveniently located near a gas station/convenience store which was a great comfort in case we forgot something or needed more ice for our food. Be sure to lock up your food in the bear proof locker on site because we did actually see a few bears very near by the campsite. We even woke up one morning to deer hovering around our campsite (looking for food scraps I'm sure.) Very memorable experience and very convenient location. I would definitely go again and plan to soon!
