Crane Flat Campground

Newly renovated campground, added flatter tent areas hug Evers lockers on every site. Potable water at all restrooms. Campground allows gathering of downed wood, so you can skip buying wood if you like adventures! Approximately 30 minutes to the valley floor, way closer than most hotels. It was hard to tell where one campsite ended and another started. From our site we could see and hear about 8 different campsites. A little too close IMO.

This campground has improved a lot since I last stayed here. Our site was flat and had plenty of room for our 4-person tent. It also offered relatively more personal space and privacy than most campsites in the valley. The picnic table and bear box were new as well, which was a plus. The only negative aspect is that this site (and all of the others) had very powdery, chocolate-brown soil which got all over our shoes and pants every time we were at our site.

Very nice, enough parking, quiet and convenient. The bathrooms are clean, no soap dispensers, which would be nice.

Cons:
A bit nosy cause sites are close to each other (we heard bear boxes and car doors being shut at night)
Some sites are looking at the road and have very few trees (it doesn't feel cozy)
Sites don’t feel secluded
A lot of crows, they woke us up in the morning
No shower
No electricity in the restrooms (you need to use a headlight)
Tight parking space

I've been to 10 out of the 13 Yosemite campgrounds, and I must say that Crane Flat is high up on my list of favorite campgrounds. The entire campground is surrounded by mossy pines, and has decent shade (depending on what time of day it is.) The bathrooms are clean, and the toilets flush great. The only downside is that a lot of the sites are small, and there is a lot of dusty dirt at each site. It's easy to get dusty/dirty fast because of this. I booked a double site, which gave my family more space to camp and spread out. It's more money, but worth it if you have a family of five or more.

For those who are curious what my other favorite campgrounds are, my most favorite ones are Bridalveil (1st), White Wolf (2nd), and a tie between Tamarack Flat and Crane Flat (3rd.) I have yet to camp at Yosemite Creek, but I have a feeling it will make the top list as well.
