I've been to 10 out of the 13 Yosemite campgrounds, and I must say that Crane Flat is high up on my list of favorite campgrounds. The entire campground is surrounded by mossy pines, and has decent shade (depending on what time of day it is.) The bathrooms are clean, and the toilets flush great. The only downside is that a lot of the sites are small, and there is a lot of dusty dirt at each site. It's easy to get dusty/dirty fast because of this. I booked a double site, which gave my family more space to camp and spread out. It's more money, but worth it if you have a family of five or more.
For those who are curious what my other favorite campgrounds are, my most favorite ones are Bridalveil (1st), White Wolf (2nd), and a tie between Tamarack Flat and Crane Flat (3rd.) I have yet to camp at Yosemite Creek, but I have a feeling it will make the top list as well.

Nice and quiet campground. I stayed at 107 and had a good amount of shade in the afternoon. Cooler than the valley floor and about a 30 minute drive to the loop!

Nice and quiet campground. I stayed at 107 and had a good amount of shade in the afternoon. Cooler than the valley floor and about a 30 minute drive to the loop!

Large campground, good amenities. Could've done with more patrolling and not having music at other campsites. Would book again for easy entry and bus access into the park.

A nice campground. But for many sites you're gonna have to shlep all your stuff down a flight of stairs. Or, RV folks can carry their chair down for a visit.
I don't mind the semi-walk-in sites if I'm there for a while. But for one night it's a lot of work. And anyone with mobility issues is in trouble.
In the old days you drove around and avoided the sites that didn't work for you. Now, is there a way to tell at Rec.gov if there's stairs involved?

Crane Flat is a beautiful campground. The renovations make it feel fresh without taking away the natural Yosemite beauty. We were close to our neighbors who played loud music until 11pm (why???) but even despite that, we loved our time here. This site has a flat parking pad and plenty of space for families to eat, play, and explore. We collected all of our own firewood with no issues so no need to buy wood before you arrive - it's everywhere.

Take Highway 41 north from Fresno, Highway 140 east from Merced, or Highway 120 east from Manteca into Yosemite National Park. Crane Flat Campground is located 8 miles from the Big Oak Flat Entrance Station (Hwy 120 from the west), and is 17 miles (30 minutes) northwest of Yosemite Valley.
Crane Flat Campground is accessible via Highway 120, which is 8 miles from the Big Oak Flat Entrance Station to Yosemite National Park.

Policies & Rules
General
- You are responsible for reading the site alerts and booking a site that will accommodate your equipment. The campground has had a complete overhaul and every site has changed.
- If arriving one or more days late, call (209) 379-2123; your reservation will be cancelled if we do not hear from you within 24 hours of your arrival date.
- Bring proof of your reservation (screen shot or paper version). There is no internet access, cell service or public phone at Crane Flat.You must sign in at the entrance of the campground or you will be considered a no show and your reservation cancelled.Make your site look occupied--leave a chair or other equipment so we know you've arrived.
- Bears and wildlife live here! Food, scented items and toiletries must be stored 24 hours/day. Absolutely NO food stored in vehicles!Food lockers are provided in all campsites and measure 35 inches deep x 43 inches wide x 28 inches high.Dispose of garbage immediately in bear-proof dumpsters or in your locker. Do NOT hang garbage bags in your site!
- No electric, water, or sewer hookups are available at this facility, however, a dump station is located in Yosemite Valley, as are showers.
- Resale or auction of advance reservations is prohibited.
- There is no electricity and therefore, no lights in this campground. Bring a light source!

- Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
