Hodgdon Meadow Campground

I was pleasantly surprised to be able to reserve a campsite for the same day for a weekend in August -- pretty rare, I think.

In my haste to book a campsite, I didn't read the detailed description of the campsite: on a slope, with only 6' x 10' for our two tents. I was disappointed that no one was in the entrance kiosk -- just a sign-in sheet that said I must come back to properly check in (but nothing about when it would be staffed). I was again disappointed that, for a campground of over 100 campsites (excluding the group sites), there were only 2 restroom buildings, and those were the only sources of water. And the campsites are very close together, without clear marking of boundaries (e.g., the neighboring campers put up a tent right behind our bear box).

On the positive side, the volunteer at the kiosk was very friendly, the restrooms were decent, and have a light for finding them at night. Although there was some chatter in the evening, it got quiet by 10pm and stayed that way past 6am. Very few bugs, and a couple of entertaining squirrels harvesting pinecones. The location enabled us to visit a few places along Tioga Road, and made it easy to visit nearby Crane Flat Campground for an interesting ranger talk on wildfires.

Not bad for the price

Campsites were sloping. The 2 sites were uneven no matter how I positioned my tent I was always at an uncomfortable decline. I realize I’m in the woods but seems like campsites weren’t thought out very well

Many sites are highly sloped. It was challenging to find a level surface for a tent. The site next to mine had a driveway that was too steep for the campers to level the van to sleep in.
The site was quiet at night.
The restroom was small but adequately plumbed.
The ranger was helpful.

A good campground close to the Big Stump entry

Every site was at a 30° angle and we had a hard time leveling our RV. The rangers aldo walked around each site regularly. I felt like a child with a babysitter. We left on the 2nd day and found a good situation. We did get a partial refund, and this is why I gave 2 stars and not only one.

The two adjacent sites we used (six people) were large, but tents sites were separated by fallen trees and sloped areas. The restroom facilities are adequate, at best. There is a water-filler tap that could use a nozzle. It sprayed more water on me than into my bottle. Overall it is an unremarkable campsite.

It was a really interesting and enjoyable experience. The peace and tranquility of the forest created a very pleasant atmosphere. However, unfortunately, some people did not respect the quiet hours. Two young people at the campsite next to ours started making noise around 3 a.m. Their car alarm went off several times, and they were talking loudly and eating.

The restrooms were not very clean. They were cleaned only once during our stay and there was no soap available. Having only two restrooms for more than 100 campsites is definitely not enough.

I believe this place could be much better with improved restroom facilities and better enforcement of quiet hours. On the positive side, the location is very close to Yosemite, making it easy to visit the waterfalls and explore the other beautiful attractions in the area.

Amazing place, we had a great time. Very comfortable, nice sized sites, quiet and peaceful! Will be back for sure!
