Glad to see campground staff check for vacant campsites and make some available on recreation.gov website for next day availability.

We had the best campsite across from the Merced river and close to the confluence of Tenaya and Merced

We stayed at site 509 for about a week and while all campsites seem crammed together in this campground, it was amazing to view Half Dome and Yosemite Falls right from our campsite w/ the Merced River flowing right by us. We saw a bear waltz toward campsites near us around Noon during one of our days there. Everyone scared it off by shouting. The rangers were there in a heartbeat to take a report. It was kind of neat, but it also reminded us why we have to be so cautious by storing food/toiletries in bear bins and disposing waste water. Speaking of which, they have a waste water disposal area at the bathrooms. There are no showers at this campground, but the camp host let us know that you can get showers for $5 at Curry Village (nearby). This campground has flushing toilets and that's a big deal to some people in my group. It also has hydration stations and a place to get potable water. This came in handy. We walked to the famous Mist Trail Trailhead, which was about a mile away from this campground - huge bonus. I recommend not taking the street to the Mist Trail, but taking the trail that follows the river. The waterfalls were all still booming as of late July 2023 and the mosquitos were not that bad at all, but we still used bug spray at times during our trip. What an epic year and an awesome campground!

The campground was quite busy on our first visit but we arrived early so no problem. The second time it was fairly quiet. The lack of drinking water at the backpackers campground was annoying and there are no showers anywhere. Also the toilets at the backpackers campground smelt rather badly whilst the ones at the main campground didn’t. But it was very convenient and good value

Every hour in Yosemite is special, but I would remind those in space 401 that there is NO shade. You're out there all by your lonesome to bake when the sun comes out. Also something to think about; the bear container for food now becomes an oven and you'll most certainly go through a lot of ice in your cooler because it melts fast. My neighbors at 402 were smart and put up an umbrella to shade the bear container and I'm sure that helped.

I mean. You're in Yosemite. It doesn't get much better. Right by the river. Paradise.

Loved our trip to North Pines Campground. Site 404 had a fantastic view of half dome and was nice and shady. Close enough to hear the River and close to the restrooms.
