Beautiful area and close to the Mariposa Grove of Sequoias. We had site 99 and it was steeply sloping to say the least. We encroached into some common area and we’re able to get a relatively flat area to pitch our 8 man tent. The Rush Creek was magnificent and was great white noise at night to let us get a great sleep. Next time, we will look for a flatter site but loved this place nevertheless.

The campground is set along the south fork of the Merced river, and a number of the campsites are close to the river. The sound of the roaring river in spring is very soothing. Campground is well run and clean.

We had a wonderful time at Wawona! I would say that the only thing that I wish could be changed was the “One Way” streets, make it very difficult for someone with a longer camper/trailer to back into their site so that door/sitting area is not on the road. We reserved a spot on the river, but it was super challenging getting our rig backed into our spot! It’s only tough for bigger campers, not a huge deal!

I love any chance to stay in Yosemite. Wawona is a long drive from the Valley floor, but that allows you to have a quiet experience where you can really experience the sound of the creek rushing by and see the stars twinkling in the night sky. Close to water fall hikes and the redwoods, about an hour drive from Half Dome, Curry Village and the Mist Trail.

Although it’s located a bit of a drive from the valley it’s more peaceful and away from it all.

17A is the best site in the A loop, backs right up to the river and was plenty big for our 30' MH and van. There is a trail by the bathrooms and group site that is short and easy for kids.
a short drive to the valley and back made it a great location that was never crowded!

Clean restrooms, general store at Wawona Hotel and Chevron is 1-2 mi south of the campground, and campground is about 55 minutes from Curry Village. Fairly quiet, respectful guests, and well spaced apart campsites. Only thing is that there appears to be no camp host so you have to get supplies and firewood or ice from the fire station or a general store. Rangers are nice and check up on late check-ins in a friendly and courteous manner.
