Spot 44 was a bit lacking after staying in spot 35 the night before. 44 had old inground fire pit that had a good 4 inches of old ashes…likely not cleaned out yet this season. Bear proof storage had a 30 gal bag full of trash hosts must have overlooked. Ground was mostly dirt and tent site was not in need of some attention as well. It was our third time at Difficult campground and were disappointed with this site…35 and 38 were great.

This was our family's second stay tent camping at this lovely campground. The campsites are large and very private. The pit toilets were quite clean. Even though the campground was sold out, it didn't seem crowded or noisy. The sound of the Roaring Fork river and the Aspen leaves were just about all we heard.
The campground hosts were helpful and friendly!
The weather was unusually hot for the area. As long as we were in the shade, we stayed cool. But between 1 and 5 pm we didn't have much shade and so we ended up trying to go somewhere to find shade.
The only problem we had was that our site was lots of dirt/campfire ash, very little grass or pebbles.
We saw LOTS of wildlife during our stay! We saw moose in the marshy pond by the entrance every day. We saw foxes, elk, deer, and a beaver. But the biggest surprise was the black bear we encountered on the trail adjacent to the campground, about five minutes from our tent!

This had the best of both worlds - camping, trailhead, yet could hop into Aspen town for all that it has to offer. Wish I had brought my bike. There is a bike trail from the campground to town. In warm weather there is a lazy stream on the road into Aspen that people were floating on (paddle boards). The water is cold though.

very clean, well-kept campground. The hosts very helpful and friendly. We greatly enjoyed the quiet, scenic location and proximity to all the sights and activities around Aspen. Thank you for helping our first experience as RV campers be such a good one.

we stayed for 2 weeks in late May. It was a nice campground. Our site was almost too small for a 35' motorhome and a jeep and it was too shady for our solar panels to keep up with our needs....but I know for most people "too shady" is a benefit. Roaring Fork River runs through it and it was roaring when we were there. The Difficult Creek Trail just east of the campground is a beautiful, moderate hike. We saw moose in the campground area. No phone service but it's only 3 or 4 miles into Aspen if you gotta have an internet fix. Just 4 stars for the small site, but otherwise great.

Very clean facility! Restrooms were cleaned daily and bear locker was spotless. The only gripe is that the speed bumps are nearly impossible to get over in a regular sedan. Really good camp site and very beautiful!
