Silver Bar Campground

About Silver Bar Campground

Silver Bar Campground is located approximately five miles southwest of Aspen, Colorado, on the banks of Maroon Creek. The campground is adjacent to the Maroon Bells Welcome Station. This small, primitive, campground features four tent-only, walk-in sites with centralized vault toilets only a few yards away from each campsite. A single accessible campsite is located near the toilets and water source. The campground sits at an elevation of 8,460 feet, allowing guests to experience warm summer days and cool evenings with probable afternoon thunderstorms. Properly licensed anglers may fish in Maroon Creek, which runs along the eastern edge of the campground. Come prepared for changing weather conditions. Snow is possible even at the peak of summer.

Amazing camp ground! We stayed at site 3 which we thought was the best. Kind of tucked away and access to the river. Fell asleep to the sound of rushing water every night. But still high enough from it we weren't concerned of sudden rising water. We had a firepit, bear box, and picnic table. Super close to the iconic Maroon bells scenic location. It was beautiful in late September - we were there the last week the campsite was open. It was cold in the morning but beautiful when the sun came over the peaks!

Site 4: little more exposed but can also get down to the river.

Site 3: ours, see above

Site 2: more tucked away but can see it from site 3. Only way to get to the river is going though site #3 area. There is a small path between the two.

Site 1: wasn't able to go all the way to the site but def the most secluded. Could not see the tent site from the parking area. Will be more of a hike to get all your gear to the site I would assume. Also assume you have no river access but you do have more privacy!

Wonderful camping at this amazing destination. Sites are a bit small but considering the location well worth it. Friendly and helpful staff!

Beautiful camp site only a short walk from parking. I really enjoyed the parking pass to bypass taking the bus to the Maroon Bells. Nice tent pad but we elected to sleep in our vehicle because of rain.

Silver Bar is my favorite site in the maroon Bells area. Camp sites are more private!

We LOVE this campsite and feel it is the best one out of the four in this ring (and maybe all of Maroon Bells). There is a very short walk down to the river, which has a fallen log creating a short waterfall. This also creates "white noise" such that you don't hear the people at other campsites. The Rangers were friendly and the vault toilet restroom was exceptionally clean. We also had more shade during the day than other sites (but note that it's not complete shade all day). To help others understand the 4 sites... Site #1 is very secluded and off by itself, but farthest from the river. Site #2 and Site #3 are closer to the river, and have tent pads that are fairly close together, and people have worn a path between them, so this would be good for booking with others you know (but it is not horrible if stangers are there). Site #2 has access to the river, but not as easy as site #3. Site #4 is more off on it's own, but it is most visible from the parking lot (unlike site #1), and while you can walk to the river, it's not as open of an area (compared to site #3). This is bear country and bear boxes are provided BUT you have to put everything that has a scent into them when you leave for the day AND at night, so plan your packing acccordingly! This is also a "walk in" site, but the path from the parking is maybe 20 paces, if that, so it was very easy to carry our stuff in. There is a parking fee at the entrance but that allows you to drive and park up at the Maroon Bells scenic area.

Nice isolated feeling campsite despite being close to the road and the welcome kiosk. Lots of trees.

Nice little campsite right at the entrance to maroon bells. Everything is well kept. Clean bathroom. The site is surrounded by lots of plant growth which makes it feel more secluded but also a bit cramped. Great for a small group. The path is also surrounded by plants so you can’t see your car from the site. We liked the river close by that have soothing water sounds.

This is great spot with shade and access to the creek , huge bear lockers to protect food and trash. A nice space away from the other campsites. Buy yourself an America the beautiful pass. Plus trailhead parking will be available during your stay.

Great spot to beat the crowds to Maroon Bells. The area designated for tent is big enough for two small tents. The area has a vault toilet, fire pits and picnic tables.
