About Lake Isabel Cabin

Lake Isabel Cabin is ideal for guests who wish to experience camping in the Pike and San Isabel National Forest, yet sleep in a bed with a roof overhead. The modern cabin is full-service and can accommodate up to six guests, with convenient access to Lake Isabel, just three minutes away. Lake Isabel is one of the few lakes in Colorado developed purely for recreation. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the lake attracts many campers who come to hike, canoe, fish and spend time bird watching. St. Charles Creek flows near the cabin and offers an extra option for fishing.

The review is for a four night stay, Oct. 10 - Oct 13, 2021. This is a lovely cabin, well equipped (has Keurig and drip coffee makers) and affordably priced. It's secure and has smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, a nice addition to a 1952 vintage cabin. The secure one car garage adjacent to the kitchen with lots of counter and storage space makes the slightly small kitchen very workable. The living room with its fireplace and large wood dining table was used a lot. We enjoyed the outdoor spaces both in the front and back yards. Fire ring and metal mesh sturdy picnic table in back was used for one meal. Parking for three cars is paved, flat and very safe to walk on, helpful for five senior adults. Firewood provided = A+. Helpful items that we brought: paper towel, zip-locks, lawn chairs, folding table, extension cords, LED lights (a bit dark in living room), area rug, portable propane grill, kitchen linens, cleaning cloths and long rubber gloves for pre-departure clean-up.

We enjoyed our stay at the Lake Isabel Cabin. It is a great size for 2-4 people, nice location, peaceful, beautiful scenery, close to good fishing and hiking.
However, the cabin needs some regular attention to cleaning and supplies.
When we arrived, we had to clean the bathroom tub, toilet, and sink. The floors in the bathroom and kitchen were very dirty also - lots of grime build-up. Window shades and furniture very dust covered.
Also, the kitchen pots, pans, and utensils supply needs a good sorting out and cleaning - lots of unusable pans, dirty coffee maker, utensils and drawers dirty, better selection of cutting and chopping knives needed. On a good note, the major appliances in the kitchen (fridge, microwave, and oven) all are in good working order. We didn't try the washer and dryer.
I don't think the honor system of leaving the cabin as clean as you would like to find it is working. The daily rental rate is very reasonable, but should be enough to allow an updating of kitchen cookware/supplies and a real cleaning by a housekeeping service a couple times a month in between bookings.
