What an amazing value! Well maintained and located just across the road from Lake Isabel.
A hot shower was just the thing after hiking all day. Hot water and electricity in a forest service cabin is always a bonus. Didn't get to use the fireplace but it is another added value.

Surprisingly spacious cabin. Separate sleeping area with 3 sets of twin bunk beds. Living room has large dining table with 4 chairs and bench. Comfortable sofa with coffee table. Two chairs by fireplace. Kitchen now has Keurig, large microwave, stove with oven, fairly well stocked kitchen with cups, bowls, plates, silverware, and pots/pans to use. Toaster, coffee maker, and sandwich maker. Full fridge with freezer. Washer and dryer available. Bring linens, warm comforter/sleeping bag, kitchen towels, extra paper towels, Keurig coffee pods, dishwashing soap, shampoo/body soap, bathroom towels, and laundry detergent. We did not know what would be available and packed kitchen supplies we didn’t need. Bathroom was stocked with toilet paper. Didn’t pack any freezer items or microwaveable items since we didn’t know a microwave and full freezer were available. Pantry area in kitchen to stock dry foods. Kitchen has trash bags.
Loved how deer grazed in grassy area by kitchen in the evening and early morning. Great view of hills by San Isabel. Short walk to Lake Isabel. Area surprisingly quiet when windows closed. Some highway traffic off 165 that can be heard if windows open. Minimal cell reception that was spotty. Sometimes could send and receive text.
We arrived after dark. Little tricky when we first pulled up. Gate entry to cabin has two padlocks. Combination lock is smaller lock and enter code on bottom of padlock (combo given with reservation confirmation). Squeeze top and bottom of padlock together after you dial the combo and lock opens. Same style lock for the cabin entry.
Cabin provided more than we expected and we hope to return again in the future.

Great Cabin! Very clean, exactly what I was hoping for. The kitchen is decently stocked, but if you plan on cooking you MUST bring dish-soap, washcloths, and towels (as no linens are provided). I would also suggest you bring knives (there's are low quality), a cutting board (they have 1 cheap one), a colander (for noodles) and trash bags. Good enough pots/pans, and good plates, silverware, cups, a Keurig, etc. There is a front gate w/ padlock that is the same code to get into the cabin. Bishop Castle is a 10 min drive and a MUST SEE if you are here. At the very least drive by it. Super cool (don't forget to donate if you go in, as it is free). Great Sand Dunes Natl Park is 2 hours away, and super cool if you're willing to drive, and the Sangre de Cristos mountain range is 1 hour away and good for long hikes if you want. Overall great cabin!

This is a nicecabin in a great location. We love to come here and have the comforts of home and the lake within walking distance. We biked around the lake as well which was relaxing and a good workout! The cabin has everything you need and with the fire ban we just made smores on the fire in the fireplace. The beds are all in one room, which makes it a challenge to sleep if have a snorer and there was some sort of ticking sound coming from the out building behind the cabin so bring ear plugs to help with the noise. If this cabin was off the beaten path a bit more it would have made it perfect.
