The campsite was pretty and calm (except for the roaring river), the restrooms very immaculate, and the scenery was just stunning -- we got to pitch our tent in between golden aspens, it was soooo beautiful! Would love to come back.

To have ready access to the Maroon Bells is reason enough to camp here, but it's also just a lovely campground. There are only six sites, spaced generously, so it's very quiet. The campground sits on West Maroon Creek, and that blocks the road noise, which is already limited. The tent pad is set well back from the campground road, behind the picnic table and fire ring. The bear-resistant food locker is huge: it held our cooler, nonperishable food, stove, fuel, and cookware, with room to spare. (Take it seriously; a bear wandered through our campsite at 10:00 in the morning. We'd only left water out, which the bear sniffed and left alone before gorging on a nearby berry bush.) There are two well-maintained pit toilets that are cleaned every morning, and a water pump and trash and recycling bins in a common area. Lots of trees provide shade and beauty. We had site 2, which worked great for a tent.

Nice campground, lots of shade and good creek access from site 2. Bear-safe storage is a must, we saw 3 while there: one on each night of stay.

We stayed at site 3 on Silver Queen in mid-July 2020 and it was great! The river nearby was peaceful at night. The pit toilets are directly across from the site and literally the cleanest pit toilets I’ve ever seen. They came by daily and bleach mopped them completely. We did have a black bear visit each evening around dinner time but thankfully the bear lockers are big and able to fit everything, and some loud noise chased him off. He must travel up and down the river to the campsites because he heard he had been at Silver Bell around lunch. A family of moose also crossed our camp after dark (with a baby!). Our neighbors were quiet and great. We will definitely come back to Silver Queen in the future, and obviously the big payoff is the Maroon Bells hike.

Lovely and small campgrounds right near Maroon Bells! Silver Queen campsite #3 was great, shaded in the mornings and afternoons and a little path to the river. Was perfect for one tent and one car, would have been a bit squishy otherwise. Some mosquitos and bees during the day, bring your bug spray! But they went away at night. Bathrooms were very clean.

We love the single-site bear-boxes and the new outhouses. We love the tables, fire-boxes and how clean the sites always are.
