About Saddlehorn Campground

Saddlehorn Campground is located within Colorado National Monument which preserves one of the grand landscapes of the American West. Much more than a monument, towering monoliths exist within a vast plateau and canyon panorama. You can experience sheer-walled, red rock canyons along the twists and turns of Rim Rock Drive, where you may spy bighorn sheep and soaring eagles.

Beautiful area but small and sloping sites. Not much room to navigate backing. Site selection is critical

Nice facility. Wished we’d done some more scouting of the campsites. Not much shade. Enjoyed our visit.

Really enjoyed camping in Colorado National Monument around the Cedar and Pinon Pine trees and access from the campground to beautiful Window Rock Trail. Visitor Center is very close to the campground; could walk to it if you wanted to do so. Restrooms were very clean. Easy to maneuver into pull through Site 13, A, with our 28' motorhome although there is a small tree on the left. We were able to adjust our position to accommodate our one slide-out. It is a little unnerving driving through the tunnels from the park west entrance so 'hugged' the center line which was fine with our 11'3" height. Campground was quiet with nice space between sites; waste high grills - nice! Also hiked the Alcove Nature Trail from the Visitor Center - educational and fascinating! Both trails were good for seniors to hike.

What a gorgeous gem of a campground -- those sunset views! We needed a place to stop and camp on a roadtrip, and were grabbing coffee with a friend in Grand Junction, and she tipped us off to this spot. So so much better than parking the van somewhere in the city. Beautiful area and we saw 2 desert bighorn sheep on our drive down, early the next morning.

Great views and a very nice area. It was a little hot during the day when we were there (late July). The campsites are more designed for tent camping ( I had a 30ft RV) but was okay. I had to flip the RV around to get the door on the camp side. Most sites you park on are not very level. The water was on, and the restrooms are okay. Saw Bighorn Sheep which was cool and the Colorado River below in the valley.

The Colorado National Monument is amazing and this is a great campsite with good views right next to the Visitors' Center. The restrooms were kept clean. A potential issue for some campers might be that many of the campsites are very unlevel.

It was impossible to level our trailer at our site! We were fortunate there was another site open for one night and left a day early. I think this campground is appropriate for tents or very small trailers.

Our campsite was clean and had a great view. It was hot and in the middle of the week, so it wasn't crowded. We got to watch a thunderstorm off to the west and the pinyon jays and nighthawks kept us entertained that evening. We will definitely return!
