The view of our site (#17) was fantastic. Short walk to the fall and a short drive to the Great Sand Dunes.

Nice campground at high altitude. Clean and decent size lots with nice areas for tables and fire rings. Minimal shade.

Zapata Falls a short 1/2 mile hike away. Great Sand Dunes NP in 20 minutes.

Stunning location. Unfortunately we picked a lower campsite thinking from the map that it would have the best view. In fact the back campsites are higher and have amazing unobstructed views. Site 13 is the best!!

The views are beautiful! Good tent campsites. Quiet but populated. There are vault toilets. Be sure to bring your own water. If you're there in March or earlier, be prepared for water to freeze overnight. Highly recommend!

Someone was occupying my site I’d paid for and I had to find somewhere else for the night.

Visited in mid December. Campground was empty except for one other camper. Vault toilets were clean. Amazing view of the valley from site 13. The short hike to Zapata Falls is definitely worth it.

We were there 8/9/25 for an overnight, on our way back to Denver from Chaco Canyon. Even though it was snowy (road) and cold, the stars and view were worth the nightly trips to the pit toilet (which were very clean)! The sites seem very well situated to provide views as well as a modicum of privacy. We've made a note to return and camp at Zapata Falls and explore the area at a later date. Absolutely beautiful views day and night.
