The short hike to Zapata Falls is highly recommended, providing a beautiful experience for families and hikers alike. When you can't book a "sold out" site at GSDNP, check out the Zapata Falls BLM campground. Easy to access, quiet, and close to the hiking trailhead. We have enjoyed our multiple stays here over the years and will be back.

Someone was in my campsite that I paid for……was not happy about that.

Sites 3 and 4 are pretty close to each other, especially when site 3 people decide to move off their area closer to site 4 to set up tents and hammocks. I could hear them pop the tabs of their beer cans, discuss their annoying bosses, talk about AI, and plan the next day's off-roading trip.

The new RV sites are great, well-spaced apart and easy to access. Location and setting are excellent. The only issues are related to the Zapata Falls trail head adjacent to the new RV loop. There is no signage indicating that the loop is not for through traffic, like the older loops. There was a constant stream of traffic through the loop with people randomly turning around in occupied campsites and driving the wrong way around the loop. I would not stay anywhere near the trail head or restroom.

Beautiful views from the campground! It was a quiet area just a short distance from Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Other than the high altitude sickness, this place was a goldmine! Very spacious camp sites, beautiful view of the skies and scenery, short walk to the Zapata Falls, and about 25 min away from the Great Sand Dunes. Really appreciated the host who kept up with constant replenishing toilet papers and cleaning of the toilets during the rush day time visitors to the falls.
