Summary

Stove Prairie offers a beautiful camping experience along the Poudre River, with many guests appreciating the soothing sounds of the water and the friendly camp host. While some noted issues with cleanliness in the bathrooms and the presence of non-paying day visitors, the overall atmosphere and proximity to nature, along with nice walking trails, make it a desirable spot. Campers enjoyed family-friendly activities and the scenic environment, though some expressed frustrations over the camp host's demeanor and additional fees.

Our trip, as usual, was great. We love site #3, which is mostly in the shade, and quite large. The bathrooms are always very well maintained, and the newly reopened Youngs Gulch hike a few miles away was lovely. The trail has been almost completely rerouted due to the fire and flood damage from 2012. The trail used to run along the river in mostly wooded areas. Now it is mostly in the open, with beautiful views of burnt trees, wildflowers, trees and green areas. It does cross the river multiple times, so there are opportunities to play in the water. The complete trail is about 4.7 mi.

Stove Prairie felt like a hidden gem. We only stayed one night, so we didn't get to explore/hike around the area very much. However, the campsites were spacious and comfortable. Despite being right off the highway, there weren't many vehicles, and we couldn't hear them because the river is so close. It also meant that we could barely hear other campers. The camp hosts were friendly and cautioned us about the fast current in the water. We'd definitely stay there again.
